A near-miss with a camping hatchet led to a reckless endangerment charge Thursday against a Fitchburg woman who allegedly threw the ax at her boyfriend.
According to a criminal complaint, Brenda F. Williams, 48, threw the hatchet at Donald McCants on Tuesday morning at their Smithfield Drive apartment after he tossed a lighter at her while they were "bantering." The two have lived together for 19 years, the complaint states.
The blunt side of the hatchet struck McCants on the chest, then fell to the floor.
"She could have killed me," McCants told police, according to the complaint.
