Who's More Racist: Food Network Or Paula Deen?

Not The Real Racist
Something has been bothering me about the whole Food Network vs Paula Deen, in which the Food Network is not extending Deen's contract because she used the N-word a gazillion years ago.
As someone who does watch the Food Network with my wife frequently, 2 things occurred to me:
1. The Food Network is a very liberal TV network.  They suck up to the Obama administration and has members of the Obama administration on their shows, along with Michele Obama.
The Food Network is also very gay friendly and you are not likely to see to many of their employees or contestants appear at any Tea Party conventions any time soon.
2.  You rarely see any Blacks on their shows, especially Black males.  You probably as many Blacks on their network as Black players in the NHL or Black drivers in NASCAR.
For example:
"Chopped" is their most popular show and you rarely see any Black contestants, further, there is only 1 judge who makes rare appearances on the show, Marcus Samuelsson, and he was raised in Sweden.  The host is also white.
Their other popular show, Iron Chef America, has no Black Iron Chefs, rarely any Black Sous Chefs (chef assistants) rarely has a Black contestant or judges.
On the Food Network web site for the network's chef's, out of 32 chefs, only 3 are Black and two are a couple, so only 2 pictures are of Blacks.  http://www.foodnetwork.com/chefs/index.html  The two shows with Black hosts look like they are the second coming of the Cosby show.
So, one of three things are happening:
1.There are very few Black chefs in America.
2.  Very few Black chefs want their own cooking show on the Food Network
or
3.  The Food Network is racist.

I vote for #3 as there many Black chefs in the United States and many in Las Vegas and I am sure some of them would give up being a chef in a restaurant to be star of their own cooking show.
We have seen how liberals hate Black people, especially those who are conservative.  They also don't like Blacks by the way they treat the poor ones.  Keeping them enslaved and indebted to the government through meager welfare and food stamp payments.
So, big deal if Paula Deen, who is an old lady of the South used the N-word 40 years ago, the real racism is still occurring and it is occurring at the Food Network.

Is There A Difference Between RINO Dean Heller And Senile Harry Reid?

The trouble with conservatives is that we actually hold our politicians accountable while liberals don't.  When liberal politicians do wrong, the liberals either ignore the problem or downplay the problem.
Well, here goes: Dean Heller, you're an shameful ass.
From Breitbart:Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) have inserted a provision that amounts to little more than a handout to Las Vegas casinos into the repackaged immigration reform bill, Breitbart News has learned. This provision, a brazen example of crony capitalism, was inserted into the immigration law enforcement section of the bill despite the fact that it has nothing whatsoever to do with "immigration" or "law enforcement."
On page 66 of the repackaged bill, the following provision appears:
“CORPORATION FOR TRAVEL PROMOTION.—Sec- 9(d)(2)(B) of the Travel Promotion Act of 2009 (22 U.S.C. 2131(d)(2)(B)) is amended by striking ‘‘For each of fiscal years 2012 through 2015,’’ and inserting ‘‘For each fiscal year after 2012.”
The Travel Promotion Act (TPA) of 2009 allows the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury to spend up to $100 million on promoting travel to specific areas of the country. If the provision Reid and Heller inserted into the proposed immigration reform legislation becomes law, the benefits of the TPA would be extended indefinitely.
As the Heritage Foundation’s Jena McNeill wrote in June 2009, the Travel Promotion Act creates “a government-run public relations campaign funded by a tax on international visitors.” After the law was passed, the PR campaign touting Las Vegas casinos and other tourist destinations in the U.S. using that tax was rolled into a government-run corporation called “Brand USA.” In October 2012, Jim DeMint and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) released a report that “reveals a history of waste, abuse, patronage, and lax oversight” with the Brand USA program and the Department of Commerce that oversees it.  http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/06/22/Harry-Reid-Dean-Heller-insert-Casino-Cronyist-favor-handout-into-amnesty-bill
I expect this kind of crap Senile/Coward/Liar Harry Reid who is the white slave of Obama.
But Heller, you SOB, why are you playing Reid's game?  So, for a few dollars, you are willing to sell your soul?
Hopefully, in a few years, you will have a conservative challenger and beats your ass.

Wallenda Trying Big Walk

From Fox News: Daredevil Nik Wallenda is using the Navajo Nation as a backdrop to one of his most ambitious feats yet -- crossing a tightrope 1,500 feet above the Little Colorado River Gorge near the Grand Canyon.
The 34-year-old Sarasota, Fla., resident will set out Sunday on a quarter-mile cable stretched over the gorge that was eyed by another high-wire performer decades ago. The stunt comes a year after he traversed Niagara Falls earning a seventh Guinness world record. He'll be using the same 2-inch-thick cable he used to cross the falls, only this time he won't be wearing a safety harness.
After saying a prayer, "I give my wife and kids a hug and a kiss and tell them I'll see them in a bit," he told reporters Friday in Flagstaff.
Wallenda is a seventh-generation high-wire artist and is part of the famous "Flying Wallendas" circus family -- a clan that is no stranger to death-defying feats and great tragedy.
His great-grandfather, Karl Wallenda, fell during a performance in Puerto Rico and died at the age of 73. Several other family members, including a cousin and an uncle, have perished while performing wire walking stunts.
Nik Wallenda, who was born a year after his great-grandfather died, began wire walking at the age of 2, on a 2-foot high stretched rope. He grew up performing with his family and has dreamed of crossing the Grand Canyon since he was a teenager.....
Should wind gusts that are expected to be around 30 mph threaten to throw him off, Wallenda said he'll grab hold of the wire and wait it out if possible. A paramedic will be looking up at him from the river, he said.
Wallenda is highly confident in his ability to reach the other side, having walked in 52 mph wind gusts during Tropical Storm Andrea with a torrential downpour and training with wind machines that simulated 45-55 mph gusts. The only thing that would stop him entirely is lightning within a 15-mile radius, he said.
Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/06/23/aerialist-wallenda-to-cross-gorge-near-g-canyon/?test=latestnews#ixzz2X2Eq6gAO
It will be interesting watching him today and hope things work out for the best.
Though not sure what the paramedic looking up at him will do if he falls.
Hope he does better than his great grandfather, Karl:

Major Flooding In Calgary, Alberta Canada

Last year, in the Northland, Minot, North Dakota was flooded out.
this year, it is Alberta's turn, especially Calgary.
From the Calgary Sun: To put in perspective just how perilous it is around the Scotiabank Saddledome, the only way Ken King was able to get near it Saturday was with the help of a John Deere tractor that picked him up in nearby Ramsay.
That said, the Flames president is convinced hockey will be played in it this fall.
“We’re going to be ready for the opening of the season,” declared King at a hastily called press conference held shortly after the Flames president and building operations VP Libby Raines toured the flooded rink.
“We have the biggest water pumps in North America on standby but they can only be put in place once the river subsides.”
Shortly before providing disturbing pictures and video of the carnage to the media King gave a frank assessment of what he saw.
“It’s a mess,” said King.
“The tales of it being up to row eight or nine are absolutely true. To put that into perspective that means if you were a hockey player walking out of the tunnel onto the ice you would be underwater yourself. It’s is a total loss on the event level. To the extent it is greater than that we do not know.”
The Zambonis, the video control room, archived footage of the team, most memorabilia, the dressing rooms, kitchens and the media lounge are all destroyed.
King would not venture a guess as to how many millions of dollars in damages there were, nor would he speculate on when the building could start to be cleared or eventually be open for business again.  http://www.calgarysun.com/2013/06/22/calgary-flames-president-ken-king-confident-there-will-be-hockey-at-the-saddledome-next-season-despite-massive-damage-done-by-flooding
The whole downtown area of Calgary is underwater and it will be a long time before things become normal again.
Lesson learned: Don't mess with Mother Nature- she is very powerful.

American leaker, Eric Snowden has left Hong Kong and is on way to one of the following countries:
1. The United States to show up Obama.
2.  Russia to compare abs with Putin
3. Iceland to play with the reindeer.
4.  Cuba to smoke cigars with Fidel and Raul Castro
5. To Mongolia to be a Yak herder
6. None of the above.
I guess we will know in a few hours.

Village Idiot (President) Still Believes In Climate Change

Why does President Obama hate America?
Certainly, he hates Blacks and other minorities in the inner cities.
Clearly, he hates Christians, unless they are radical, racist Christians.

-1
Clearly, he hates conservatives.
Clearly, he hates his wife (or is it the other way around?)
And now, Obama is out to further destroy the economy he already has helped wreck.
From the Chicago Tribune: President Barack Obama said on Saturday that he will outline a climate change plan on Tuesday centered around reducing pollution from carbon emissions as he attempts to make good on a pledge for his second term.
"This Tuesday, I'll lay out my vision for where I believe we need to go - a national plan to reduce carbon pollution, prepare our country for the impacts of climate change and lead global efforts to fight it," he said in a White House video.

Obama made tackling climate change a top priority in his inaugural address in January when he began his second term. His speech will be at Georgetown University, the day before he goes on a three-nation tour of Africa.
In his video message, Obama outlined what would be a major national effort to address climate change. He said scientists will be needed to design new fuels, farmers to grow them, engineers to devise new sources of energy and workers to build the foundation for a clean energy economy.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/sns-rt-us-usa-climate-obamabre95k16d-20130621,0,410315.story
Seriously, climate change?  Unless you have been living under a rock or are Al Gore for the past 3 or 4 years, climate changed has been shown to be a fraud.  But then Obama and Gore are frauds.
But Obama doesn't like the oil fields, especially those he cannot control, he hates coal, nuclear power plants but believes in solar energy and wind mills.  Hell, the Amish are more technologically advanced than Obama as they use generators and carbon dioxide to run their gadgets, including refrigerators.
Obama has about 3 years left in his term as president and he is losing respect of people who used to support him so he is going to take his wrath on everyone and destroy as much of the American economy as possible.
This is just a start.

Another Democrat Sex Scandal

From the New York Post: Sen. Robert Menendez wooed a married newspaper publisher, taking the attractive brunette on a romantic getaway to the Caribbean, a tipster alleges.
The New Jersey Dem and Cecilia Reynolds jetted to Puerto Rico, where they stayed at the isolated beach retreat of the island’s then-governor, Anibal Acevedo Vila.
In a photo provided by the anonymous informant, Reynolds is sitting naked on a beach and suggestively smiling at the camera. In another set of pictures, they take turns posing against the same sunset backdrop.
The happy couple, dressed in shorts, also appeared to tour a national park and pose for a photo at a waterfall, Menendez wrapping his arm around Reynolds’ waist.
A document with copies of the photos along with details of the alleged tryst were provided to media organizations and the National Legal and Policy Center, a Virginia-based ethics watchdog group.
Menendez, 59, who was named chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee earlier this year and has been a leading proponent of immigration reform, has been embroiled in scandal for the past few months. His relationship with a wealthy Florida donor, from whom he accepted free flights on a private plane, is under scrutiny.
It’s unclear how he and Reynolds traveled to Puerto Rico for the alleged rendezvous.
The trip came at a time when the senator was trying to thwart the appointment of Rosa Emilia Rodriguez-Velez as the US attorney for Puerto Rico. He placed a “senatorial hold,” or block, on the appointment, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.  http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/nj_state_of_affairs_uv9nrD55pWXg5WlpLflqHI
Dude, just man up and admit you have a trouble being faithful- it's not like you are the first one to have this problem.

Cool: Vegas And Rehab At The Hard Rock Do A Good Deed

From the Las Vegas Sun: As soon as Tanner Seebaum stepped behind the DJ table at Rehab Pool Saturday afternoon, nothing else mattered.
He ditched his wheelchair and worked the equipment. The 16-year-old’s head bobbed to the thumping dubstep bass
while his hands twisted knobs and adjusted sliders on the controller board. The crowd at the dayclub danced and nodded to music he was spinning, music he created.
It was a dream he never thought would come true.
His mother, Stephanie, watched from the pool, while his father, Matt, snapped photos. They're trying to stay in the moment, but it's in the back of their minds -- his time is limited.
Tanner has struggled with a brain tumor for most of his life and last year, doctors told him that it was back after eight years of remission. It was terminal, and it would slowly take over his brain. He's recently lost most of the function on the right side of his body and he can’t hear out of his right ear.
Two weeks ago, doctors told him he had weeks to live, so the family came here from their home in Denver to make his last wish – working the crowd from a Vegas stage – come true....
Still, Tanner’s condition makes nothing a guarantee. His parents were worried they would have to cancel his show when they arrived on Friday. His condition seemed to spiral. He kept asking the same things over and was progressively getting worse.
“Yesterday was about one of the worst days he’s had,” Stephanie Seebaum said.
Yet on Saturday morning, Tanner seemed refreshed. He spent the morning taking in Rehab pool and getting a tour of the equipment from DJ Ryan Beeg.
When it came time to do his set, he dropped into the beat without making a mistake.
“Bottom line, we wouldn’t bring someone to Vegas who couldn’t come up to Rehab pool on EDC weekend and play a great set,” Dyksterhouse said. “He can definitely hold it down.
"I’ve never heard a 16-year-old play as good as he can play.”
For 30 minutes, Tanner dove into his routine working the controls like a professional on one of the most famous stages of Las Vegas. For 30 minutes, he was not a 16-year-old battling a terminal illness to the people in the pool -- he was a DJ.

Las Vegas has a bad reputation- greed and debauchery but there is more to Las Vegas because we are a giving city/county and we do look out for our own and others, unlike big cities in other areas in the country.
It's nice Rehab gave him a chance but it is also nice to know that the kid earned his chance and that he did a good job.
Good luck in the future, kid.

What The Hell Is The Obama Administration Thinking?

Let's see.
The Obama administration wants to conduct peace talks with the Taliban.
Afghanistan think's the Obama administration is on drugs.
The Taliban who are still continuing to kill our American soldiers.
The Taliban who still behead children- the latest 10 and 16 year old boys.
The Taliban who murder children, women, gays, the disabled etc.
The Taliban who want Muslims to live in the Stone Age.
The Taliban who murder aide workers trying to help people.
The Taliban who kill Christians and members of other religions, including Muslims.
The Taliban who hide terrorists, like Osama Bin Laden.

This is typical liberal think.  The liberals think they can talk reasonably with anyone and that everyone has the same values and goals as we do.

World's Ugliest Dog?

ugly
From the Sacramento Bee: A huge-headed, duck-footed mix of beagle, boxer and basset hound was the upset winner at the 25th annual World's Ugliest Dog Contest.
Walle (WAHL-ee), a 4-year-old mutt from Chico, Calif., who was entered at the last minute, was judged Friday as the most unsightly of 30 dogs at the Northern California competition.
"This dog looked like he's been photo-shopped with pieces from various dogs and maybe a few other animals," judge Brian Sobel said.
Walle overcame the dominance in recent years by nearly hairless Chihuahuas, Chinese cresteds, or combinations of the two.
Owner Tammie Barbee got the dog when he was three months old.
"People come up to me and say that dog is not right," Barbee said, "but I love him."  http://www.sacbee.com/2013/06/21/5515831/beagle-boxer-basset-wins-worlds.htmlGeez, I've seen uglier dogs on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians".

Will There Be Race Riots If There Is An Innocent Verdict In Trayvon Martin Case?

There have been reports over the blogosphere that if George Zimmerman is found innocent in killing thug Trayvon Martin, there may be race riots, at least in Florida.
My gut says no.  Rioting just isn't fun in the hot Orlando, Florida summer- the heat and humidity.  High in the upper 80's and humidity also in the upper 80's.
However, President Obama probably will be rioting in the air conditioning of the White House.

Secret Service Guarding White House from Obama

Oh, Just Grow Up, Liberals

From the New York Daily News: Maine’s often-brash Republican governor — who once told the Portland branch of the NAACP to “kiss my butt,” called protesters “idiots,” referred to government managers as “corrupt” and compared the IRS to the Gestapo — has done it again.
But this time critics say he’s gone too far.
Gov. Paul LePage used crude language Thursday to express his frustration over the state budget, targeting a Democratic opponent with a sexually vulgar phrase to describe how he believes he is taking advantage of the people.
The remarks, made to journalists from two television stations and one newspaper, were targeted at state Sen. Troy Jackson, an assistant Democratic Leader who criticized the governor’s veto announcement and call for 60-day reprieve to negotiate a new budget as a political stunt. Jackson said that the Legislature had enough votes to override the veto and that there was no need for lawmakers to negotiate with LePage.
LePage said Jackson “claims to be for the people, but he’s the first one to give it to the people without providing Vaseline.”
Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/maine-republican-governor-paul-lepage-criticized-crude-remark-article-1.1379130#ixzz2WvkMwlmZ
And more:
He later added: “Dammit, that comment is not politically correct, but we got to understand who this man is.
“This man is a bad person,” LePage continued. “He doesn’t only have no brains. He has a black heart and so does the leadership upstairs.”
WMTW reporter Paul Merrill told him others might find the Vaseline remark offensive.
“Good,” LePage replied. “It ought to, because I’ve been taking it for two years.”
Seriously, the libs are upset about that comment?
To them, I say, "Grow a pair".
Or is that too offensive.
Want to piss off the liberals:
A GOP presidential ticket of Scott Walker and Paul LePage.
The hell with Chris Christie.

The Welfare State: Obamaville

From the Chicago Tribune:
Raphael Brown, of Berwyn, says the fierce April storms that led to flooding through the Chicago area forced him to throw out about $5,000 worth of furniture and electronic equipment.
"I didn't have any choice," said Brown, 54.
On Friday, he was among thousands of low-income residents affected by flooding to apply for government food vouchers. He was awarded $200 through the federally funded Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Between Monday and Thursday, $7.6 million in what are known as SNAP benefits were given to nearly 61,000, according to the Illinois Department of Human Services, which is administering the program.
"The crowds have gotten larger each day," said department spokeswoman Januari Smith.
To qualify for the benefits, residents must live within specific ZIP codes and meet certain income restrictions. A one-person household with a net income of less than $1,549 per month could receive a maximum of $200 in benefits, according to state officials.
By 11 a.m. Friday at the West Garfield Park location for applications, the line stretched down Chicago Avenue and around Pulaski Road. Many had arrived early in the morning to get in line and sat on lawn chairs and plastic crates while they waited.
Those who didn't make it by a 1 p.m. cutoff were given tickets to come back next week.
Toni Palmer, 53, went to a Melrose Park location to apply at 6 a.m., but when she saw the large crowd, she decided to try her luck in West Garfield Park.
"They had so many people out there. It was crazy," she said.
Palmer said she is hoping for a little financial assistance after a flood in the basement of her two-bedroom bungalow destroyed clothes, books and a freezer with extra food in it. She estimates the freezer cost about $250.
"I hope they will give me something to replace my food," she said as she stood in line, with dozens of people ahead of her.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-flood-aid-20130622,0,4900163.story
How screwed up must your life must be if you are willing to stay outside, wait in line for hours in lines blocks long just to receive $200 or less in food vouchers.
If they are willing to work that hard to get just $200, maybe they can work that hard at a job.

Obamaville: Another Double Digit Shooting Day

From he Chicago Tribune: At least two people were killed and ten others wounded in shootings in Chicago Friday, the first day of summer.
About 8 p.m., four people were found shot in the 2900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue. The man died later at Stroger Hospital and the three others were in critical condition, authorities said.
The man who died was 21. A 30-year-old man was shot in the back, a 28-year-old man was shot in the arm and side and a 17-year-old girl was shot in her head and wrist, police said. The three survivors were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and are all in serious condition, police said.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-chicago-shootings-violence-june-21-to-22-20130621,0,3401521.story
And where is the concrn shown by Obama and Obamalie, Rahm Emmanuel, mayor of Obamaville?  No where to be seen.
Chicago is a disgrace with it's violence, but the liberals who supposedly care about Chicago couldn't care less.

Why The IRS Scandal Matters

Some people on the left are poo-pooing the IRS scandal as being much ado about nothing or that the IRS also questioned a group or two on the left so, all things must be equal.
Well, this is why the IRS scandal needs to be investigated vigorously, by an independent counsel.
From James Tarranto and the "Best of the Web": As we've repeatedly emphasized, the possibility that the IRS was acting under orders from the White House, as alarming as it is, is far less so than the "dog whistle" alternative. If the IRS did the bidding of the party in power without having to be ordered, then the federal government itself, not just the current administration, is so corrupt as to call into question the very integrity of American democracy.  http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323393804578559583374805870.html
Either scenario, the White House ordering the IRS to go after the TEA Party or if they did independently, it is very scary and there needs to accountability, otherwise we are not a nation of laws anymore and that elections can be thrown because of this.

Today Is Bring Your Dog To Work Day

Does she count?

Why Celebrities Are Stupid

From the New York Daily News:
Maybe they should have gone in a different direction.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have named their baby North — making her full name North West — according to reports late Thursday.

Yeah, this kid will be screwed up for life and probably dead before the age of 30.

Look At What The NSA May Have Caught

I guess all that spying may have paid off.
From the NY Daily News: The self-proclaimed Ku Klux Klansman who was building a mobile death ray machine to kill Muslims also had a government target — Gov. Cuomo.
A federal criminal complaint filed this week in Albany charged that Glen Crawford was planning to use a radiation-emitting device to attack a Muslim organization, a political party and “a political figure.”
Sources with knowledge of the situation told the Daily News Thursday that the unnamed political figure was Cuomo.
It’s unclear why he might have been a target.
As U.S. housing secretary under President Bill Clinton, Cuomo brought multiple cases against the Klan related to housing and other types of discrimination, but there’s no information on whether Crawford was aware of them.
Reps for the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI’s Albany office would not comment on the identity of the targeted political figure.
But Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney John Duncan said the person was never in jeopardy.

Wow, what gave him that brilliant insight?
Way to go, NSA, way to stop the guy with the death ray.

How's That Sequester For The Military Working Out

Apparently, the sequester in the military is making people bored when they are not allowed to work at their real jobs.
From the San Fran Chronicle:
The Pentagon has spoken out on a story of major importance: Cap’n Crunch isn’t really a captain.
A detail-oriented blogger noticed the cereal spokes-cartoon wears three stripes on his sleeve, making him a commander. A captain has four stripes on the sleeve. After the story went big this week, U.S. Navy spokespeople confirmed the mishap and told the Wall Street Journal:
“We have no Cap’n Crunch in the personnel records – and we checked. We have notified NCIS and we’re looking into whether or not he’s impersonating a naval officer – and that’s a serious offense.”
Not NCIS! They catch everybody.  http://blog.sfgate.com/hottopics/2013/06/20/navy-addresses-capn-crunch-controversy/
Seriously, is the Navy so underworked that they can play games about Captain Crunch?

Why Are Some GOP Memebers So Stupid?

From the San Fran Chronicle: An Illinois Republican official resigned from his leadership post Thursday amid outrage over an email in which he berated a biracial former Miss America as a "street walker" who could fill a law firm's "minority quota" if she loses her bid for Congress.
The controversy, involving a county GOP leader in central Illinois who campaigned for U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, created a new rift for Republicans already struggling to expand and attract women and minority voters.
Davis demanded the resignation of the county official, Jim Allen, after learning of what he called a "wrong, appalling and incredibly demeaning" email targeting Erika Harold, Davis' opponent in the March 2014 Republican primary.
Sent to Republican blogger Doug Ibendahl, the email referred to Harold as a "street walker" and "love child" of Democrats and suggested the Harvard graduate could fill a "minority quota" at a law firm should she lose the race.
Ibendahl, also a former party official, posted the email Wednesday on his website.  http://www.sfgate.com/news/us/article/Appalling-email-in-Illinois-spurs-new-GOP-rift-4611987.php
The GOP has they are going to be way more scrutinized  that Democrats and liberals.  The liberals and Democrats can say whatever they want and be as racist as they want and nothing will happen to them.
A GOP or conservative, on the other hand, can say something stupid one time in their life and it will cost them their career because the left will be just horrified at what they said.  They will think the conservative is the 2nd coming of Hitler and then the liberal will turn around say something much worse and nothing would happen to the liberal.
Note to conservatives, keep your mouth shut.

Bad Idea

From the Las Vegas Sun: Clark County schools may allow students to bring their own laptops, smartphones and tablet computers to campus starting next year.
The issue: For years, the Clark County School District's technology policy has banned "cellphones, pagers/beepers or other similar electronic devices" from campuses.
However, as school systems across the country begin infusing more technology into classrooms, the School District began considering a "Bring Your Own Device" policy. After months of deliberation, the Clark County School Board took a vote on the issue Thursday.
The vote: Unanimous, 7-0
The impact: Clark County joins other major school districts in central Florida and near Houston and Atlanta in adopting a "Bring Your Own Device" or technology policy.
Proponents of a "BYOD" policy argue a 21st century education must not ban technology — which is pervasive at home and in the community — at the schoolhouse gates. They argue today's students are "digital natives" who must be educated with technology to thrive in a technology-driven world.
Read more: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/jun/20/clark-county-students-cleared-start-bringing-own-l/#ixzz2Wq5yJ3ie
In theory, the board may be right but the problem with theories is that they are often wrong.
The problem is that many of these devices will be stolen or lost and then claimed they were stolen.  School police will be bogged down by all the theft complaints.
And just a few months ago, a kid was killed trying to prevent his I-Pad from being stolen from 2 thugs, one who was a student in a local high school.
Further, what if a person doesn't have a device, now, will they be put at a disadvantage against other kids who do have an I-Pad or lap to and bringing them to school.
It's just a bad idea brought forth by people who have good intentions but have no clue about how the real world works.

Pawn Stars Review: June 20, 2013

Welcome to another Pawns Star review on a Thursday.   I forgot about it but thank goodness for the DVR.
Here is the Gold and Silver Shop's updated web page- it's changed since the last time I looked at it: http://gspawn.com/
In the first episode, the first guy brought in a antique gambling device for cheaters.  It was used to hold cards close to their body when playing cards.  It was patented in 1896.  The guy wanted $200.
In the end, it turns out to be a cuff holder, which is not what Rick wanted.  There was no sale.
The story line is that Corey got hurt playing paintball- injuring his wrist and foot- by Chumlee.
The next guy brought in  a Jim Daly oil painting of an old guy from the West, playing cards.   http://www.jimdalyart.com/Artist.asp?ArtistID=25909&Akey=X5J4XX7L
Jim Daly is still alive and he will do a portrait for you for $10,000.
Rick was concerned that the painting was really a print.  The guy wanted $13,000.  Time for an expert.  To be honest, this is one of the best paintings I have ever seen.
Brett was the expert ad he said it was an original.  Brett said it was worth $10-15,000.  The guy went down to $10,000 and Rick offered $6,000 and then $6500 and that was the selling price.

The next guy brought in a 1800's pull stroller for babies.  It looks like a wheelchair.  Rick thought it may not be a baby buggy.  Rick offered $10 and the guy wanted $30.  Rick offered $20 and that was the sale price.
The next guy brought in a Rat Bike: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat_bike
Rat bikes are motorcycles that have fallen apart over time but been kept on the road and maintained for little or no cost by employing kludge fixes

The guy's bike can go about 130MPH. The guy wanted $15,000 for the motorcycle and time for an expert.  The expert, Chris and he said the motor sounded good.  He said the bike was worth about $6-8,000.  Corey offered $5000 and there was no sale.
In the 2nd episode, the story line was the 4 guys got together as a team for a trivia game at a bar Corey goes to.  The winning prize is $200.

The first guy brought in a Popeye child's coin Dime Register Bank.  It had pictures of Wimpy and Olive Oyl besides Popeye.  The Old Man offered $20 and the guy wanted $50.  The Old Man went to $25 and that was the sale price.

The next guy, Craig, the gun expert, brought in a D Moore Pistol and it supposedly belong to a African American officer in the Civil War and he was from Louisiana.  It belong to a Lt. Hays from Company F fromt he Louisiana Native Guard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2nd_Louisiana_Regiment_Native_Guard_Infantry
Craig wanted $7000 for the gun and time for the expert, Mark, who Rick now calls: "The Beard of Knowledge".
Mark came in, with his beard looking rather scruffy, said there were Union Black officers, who were local men and the guy's name was Solomon Hayes.
Rick offered $5000 and Craig still wanted $7000  and Rick went up to $6000 and Craig stayed at $7000 but settled for $6000 and that was the sale price.
The next woman brought in a signed picture of President Benjamin Harrison, who may or may not be related to Rick, Corey and the Old Man.  http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/benjaminharrison
The woman had the picture in their family for 70 years.  She wanted $500 but Rick was not sure of the signature.  Time for an expert, Stewart.  The card was a cabinet card.  He was it was an actual signature and signed by the president.  He thought it was worth about $1250.  Rick offered $700 and the lady wanted $800 (greedy?) and $750 was the selling price.
The guys went to McMullens Pub (http://www.mcmullansirishpub.com/index.shtml), which they actually do have a triva contest.
Chumlee started his own team with Pawn star experts including Mark, Rebecca and Jeremy and so they competed against Rick and his crew.  Chumlee's team won.
That ends another two new episodes of Pawn stars.  Thanks for stopping by and next week brings forth two more new episodes.  I hope I remember it.

Sick Teacher

From the New York Daily News:  A scheming Bronx teacher raped a 10-year-old student after he tricked the girl’s family into thinking she was receiving an academic award, police sources said Wednesday.
“He needs to die,” the girl’s devastated grandmother told the Daily News.
Twisted Public School 386 teacher Anthony Criscuolo — the hulking brute accused of the sickening attack on his fifth-grade student — penned a bogus note to the victim’s parents on school letterhead announcing that their daughter had written an award-winning persuasive essay, police sources said.
The letter convinced the unsuspecting parents to allow the 40-year-old predator, who had already given the girl an iPod Touch and let her wear a diamond ring in his classroom, to take the girl to a sham award ceremony he claimed was Monday.
But there were no awards, no ceremony, no pomp and no circumstance. Instead, the pathetic creep drove the victim to a school parking lot in Queens and raped her inside his silver Dodge Charger, which has tinted windows that hid the beastly attack, police sources said.
The girl’s mother called cops Tuesday after she found a string of sexually illicit emails sent by Criscuolo, family said. One missive even said the perv had left his wife to be with the child.
“He was manipulating her to keep her from talking,” said the girl’s aunt, who also lives with the family. “She was scared.”
Cops collared Criscuolo Wednesday, and he was awaiting arraignment.
“We plan to seek his termination,” said Education Department spokeswoman Connie Pankratz

Ya think?
Probably spend time in their rubber room.

I Guess Some Gays Cannot Handle Critism

With no respect intended to my friend Jamie, it seems that there are some gay folks who cannot handle criticism.
From the San Fran Chronicle: The Michelle Shocked concert scheduled for Pride weekend has been canceled.
In a statement, San Francisco Examiner Publisher Todd Vogt said:  "I am officially canceling the plan to have Michelle Shocked come to San Francisco and perform a free concert and apologize for her recent anti-gay comments. I had hoped that her concert and apology would have held the performer accountable and shine a light on hatred and bigotry, but, unfortunately, it has not. Having Ms. Shocked stand in front of a San Francisco audience and perform her music was intended to help heal, but has only further angered and offended the community.
"I sincerely apologize to all."  http://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/Shocked-to-return-to-S-F-for-Pride-4608213.php
I guess those can fling swords cannot handle taking the swords.

Hump Day: 9 Shot In Obamaville

From the Chicago Tribune: At least nine people people were wounded Wednesday in separate attacks on the city's West and South sides, officials said.
The latest shooting happened about 11:05 p.m. in the 1800 block of South Paulina Street in they city's Heart of Chicago neighborhood, according to police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines.
Someone inside a dark-colored vehicle opened fire hitting the victim, a 17-year-old boy, in the abdomen, said Gaines. Someone took him to University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago but his condition was not yet known, according to Gaines. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-chicago-shootings-violence-june-1920-20130619,0,652635.story
Coming to a city near you.
Just like this GEICO commercial:

Coward Greenspun At It again

Oh, looky here, Crack addicted Brian Greenspun of the Las Vegas Sun once again has barred me from commenting in the Las Vegas Sun, therefore protecting all the liberals he supports.
What a shame, Brian Greenspun, what a pathetic person you turned out to be and your father and mother is probably spitting at you from the grave.

Senile/Coward Harry At It Again

Senile/Coward/Liar Harry Reid is at it again.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid already presides over a body of 100 senators. But he wouldn’t mind if two more join the fold.
At a dedication ceremony for a statue of civil rights leader Frederick Douglas, the first District of Columbian to in the Capitol’s Emancipation Hall, Reid said he thought it was high time the District of Columbia be recognized as a state.
“Washington, D.C., residents pay taxes just like residents of Nevada, California or any other state,” Reid said. “The District deserves statehood, and Congress should act to grant it.”
Presently, the District of Columbia is a U.S. territory, a designation that gives residents electoral votes but no representatives to Congress. It has one delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton, who cannot vote, and elects “shadow senators” to lobby Congress on statehood.

Apparently, Old Man Harry doesn't know the Constitution, even though the fool claims he has a copy of the Constitution in his pocket:
Article One, Section Eight of the United States Constitution therefore permits the establishment of a "District (not exceeding ten miles square) as may, by cession of particular states, and the acceptance of Congress, become the seat of the government of the United States."[7] However, the Constitution does not specify a location for the capital. In what is now known as the Compromise of 1790, Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and Thomas Jefferson came to an agreement that the federal government would pay each state's remaining Revolutionary War debts in exchange for establishing the new national capital in the Southern United States.[8][a]

Clearly, the Old Man is so retarded now, that he doesn't even know the basic's of the Constitution.

Democrats Involved In Insurance Fraud?

From ABC News: The Democratic National Convention may be long over, but its organizers have not forgotten the almost half a million dollars worth of electronics they seem to have lost.
Organizers of the Charlotte, N.C., convention have filed a police report for lost and stolen electronics, some of which they appear to have valued at as much as 62 times the listed market prices.
A reportedly stolen 13-inch MacBook Pro laptop? $75,537. The price listed on the Apple website is $1,199. A lost iPhone? $30,503. A lost Blackberry? $54,250.
The DNC did not respond to a request for comment.
Calls to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for elaboration on the report were not returned.
Other items reported to have gone missing at the convention included two iPads worth around $15,000 each, laptops listed at $40,000, $34,000 and $25,000 each, and other miscellaneous items worth far more than their list price.
The report claimed that 40 items were reported lost and one item – the most highly valued one, the $75,000 MacBook Pro – was stolen.
The apparently inflated prices were reported in May with the Charlotte Police Department by Kenneth Hardy, deputy in-house counsel for the Democratic National Convention Committee, on behalf of the DNCC Host Committee.  http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/06/democratic-convention-organizers-inflate-prices-of-lost-electronics-claim-500k/
Probably reporting some reporting "Obamaphones" missing as well.
Do Democrats have no shame that they have to resort to felony insurance fraud?
Of course not, they are the party of give "mine, mine", like these fine feathered birds:

Jail Food Update:Commissioners Paid Off

In the previous post, I thought it was strange that Aramark lost a bid by several hundred thousand dollars to New Era and I wondered if any of the commissioners were paid off.
Well, looky here, some did.
Steve Sisolak received $2500 from Aramark on 12/27/2012 according to Sisolak's filing with the NV Secretary of State  http://nvsos.gov/SOSCandidateServices/AnonymousAccess/ViewCCEReport.aspx?syn=3zIihw7FC6%252bbrhdPvpSadg%253d%253d
Tom Collins: $2500 from Aramark on 11/5/2012: http://nvsos.gov/SOSCandidateServices/AnonymousAccess/ViewCCEReport.aspx?syn=5XnJQ25im9Wfe3qHIWjVGQ%253d%253d
Larry Brown:  $2500 On 11/7/2012: http://nvsos.gov/SOSCandidateServices/AnonymousAccess/ViewCCEReport.aspx?syn=5w9iSZ8QXHD2Jc1seWF8dw%253d%253d

Not sure if the links, but just go to the Nevada Secretary of State and look up political contributions.
Yep, Aramark bought and paid for their new contract with these three thieves on the Clark County commission.

Clark County Commissioners Show Their Stupidity... Again

I wonder how much Stevie Sisolak got paid?  Lawrence brown- how much was he paid off?  Suzy Braeger, how much were you paid?  Tom Collins, well,he is a very studpid fellow, so he didn't need to be paid off.
But one wonders why a food service contract was given to a higher bidder even the lower bidder met all the qualifications of the contract.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Competition and controversy were on the menu Tuesday when Clark County commissioners awarded a lucrative contract to provide meals at two of its jails to a more experienced – but more expensive – company.
The issue: Commissioners needed to chose a vendor to provide food services for inmates at Clark County Detention Center and the North Valley Complex.
The vote: Commissioners voted 5-2 to award the contract to Aramark Correctional Services, with Commissioners Chris Giunchigliani and Lawrence Weekly opposed.
What it means: Aramark will keep the contract it’s had since 2006 to provide about 11,000 daily meals at two county jails, even though staff recommended commissioners go with a cheaper alternative.
California-based New Era Foods submitted the lowest bid for the contract at $4.7 million annually, among the key criteria staff considered when recommending vendors.
But Aramark, which had the second lowest bid at $5 million per year, filed a protest with the county arguing that New Era Foods lacked the experience necessary to adequately do the job because the 5-year-old company doesn’t have any other jail contracts.
Read more: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/jun/18/commission-picks-experience-over-price-selecting-j/#ixzz2We3aI2FU
But New Era has experience in other stressful areas:
New Era Foods president James Davis made a passionate case to commissioners, pointing to other demanding contracts the company is serving, including one for a number of schools in Los Angeles.
Although the company’s experience in correctional settings is limited to one 10-month contract with a jail in California, it has hired several administrators with the necessary background, including some who previously worked for Aramark at the Clark County Detention Center, Davis said.
“We won the bid and I went and got the best talent,” Davis said. “We did this the right way. We came here. We bid on this. We were the low bidder. We’ve proven responsible … they’re trying to bully us out of a contract we won the right way.”
What's the point of putting out of bids if the commissioners are going to make the rules along the way, especially if they are paid off to rig a contract.
Hopefully the FBI will be looking into this.

Cool Picture: Tornado At Denver Airport

No damage and no injuries.

A Silly Question

Since the NSA has been exposed spying on all Internet, e-mail and phone usage in the United States, they have claimed they have broken up about 50 times.

So, why hasn't anybody been charged?

Like in this case: Disclosing new details, a top FBI official claimed the surveillance efforts helped disrupt a plot to bomb the New York Stock Exchange. FBI Deputy Director Sean Joyce said NSA officials discovered the scheme while monitoring a known extremist in Yemen, who was in contact with an individual in the U.S. After initiating surveillance, Joyce said, they were able to detect "nascent plotting" to bomb the stock exchange and ultimately disrupt the plot.

Silly question indeed.

Oh Yeah, The NBA Is Rigged

The NBA Championship series just ended and without a doubt, the referees are in the pocket of the NBA and ABC to cause a game 7.
In the last shots the San Antonio Spurs took, they were mugged, hacked and probably raped by the players of the Miami Heat and the ref's didn't man up and call the foul.
I've totally lost respect for the NBA and it is because of this.
Clearly, ABC and the NBA wanted a 7th game and they got it by cheating the Spurs.
The referees in the NBA are about 2 steps below the WWE referees. when it comes to integrity.
Oh, and I don't have a dog in the fight.  I like and dislike both of the teams.
Update, here is the first mugging:

Sad: Bethesda Lutheran Home Closing

Bethesda Lutheran Home is a institution for people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities and it is the place where I got my first real job after I graduated from high school.
From jsonline: The Bethesda Lutheran Communities Intermediate Care Facility, which provides care for 73 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Watertown, will close Aug. 31, 2014, the facility announced Tuesday.
The state will oversee a transition plan that will help the residents and their families and guardians find new residences. Relocation meetings will begin in July 2013 and continue until all of the current residents have moved to new homes.
People now living at the facility will have the option of remaining in Watertown in community homes, apartments and duplexes, with Bethesda Lutheran Communities continuing to oversee their care
"This process isn't new to Bethesda," Gretchen Block, regional director of Bethesda's North Central region, said in a statement. "We've supported hundreds of people over the years to find homes closer to family, while better connecting individuals to community resources and neighbors."
Roughly 660 people lived at the Bethesda Lutheran Communities Intermediate Care Facility at its peak, before people began moving to group homes in the communities, said Laura Reilly, vice president of marketing and communities.
It was founded 1904.
Bethesda provides community-based residential services, employment and other services to almost 1,800 people and spiritual support and services for almost 5,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in 13 states.  http://www.jsonline.com/business/bethesda-lutheran-facility-in-watertown-to-close-in-2014-b9937083z1-212054561.html
When I applied for the job, I had no idea about people with severe disabilities because at the time, the people with severe disabilities were not allowed in regular schools- they were placed in special schools, schooled at home or put in institutions, like Bethesda or state facilities.
Despite being peed on by a resident on my first day working with the residents, I loved the job and it eventually led me to become a Special Education teacher, working with kids with severe disabilities.

Nevada Teacher Training: D-.

The National Council on Teacher Quality has graded colleges that educate potential throughout the United States and Nevada fares... well we suck in putting out quality teachers.
According to the NCTQ, UNLV rates a 1 star out of 4 in 2 categories (Undergraduate and graduate elementary school programs) and rates no stars in Graduate secondary and graduate Special Education.  http://www.nctq.org/teacherPrep/findings/stateFindings.do?state=NV#institutions
The school I graduated from, U.W. Madison, had an average of 2 stars, which is hard to believe since they had so many crackpots on the staff.
There were only 3 programs with a perfect 4 star rating and two of them are in Tennessee.
So, when you get no stars in your program, like at UNLV, obviously, you are not doing very well.
And we wonder why kids these days are not so smart and bright.
I think this teacher went to UNLV:

Great And The Olympics Will Be Held There in 2016

From the Denver Post: In some of the biggest protests since the end of Brazil's 1964-85 dictatorship, demonstrations have spread across this continent-sized country and united people from all walks of life behind frustrations over poor transportation, health services, education and security despite a heavy tax burden.
More than 100,000 people were in the streets Monday for largely peaceful protests in at least eight big cities. They were in large part motivated by widespread images of Sao Paulo police last week beating demonstrators and firing rubber bullets into groups during a march that drew 5,000. There was some violence, with police and protesters clashing in Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte. The newspaper O Globo, citing Rio state security officials, said at least 20 officers and 10 protesters were injured there. Monday's protests come after the opening matches of soccer's Confederations Cup over the weekend, just one month before a papal visit, a year before the World Cup and three years ahead of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The unrest is raising some security concerns, especially after the earlier protests produced injury-causing clashes with police. In Sao Paulo, Brazil's economic hub, at least 65,000 protesters gathered Monday at a small, treeless plaza then broke into three directions in a Carnival atmosphere, with drummers beating out samba rhythms as people chanted anti-corruption jingles. They also railed against the matter that sparked the first protests last week—a 10-cent hike in bus and subway fares.

It's not to late to pull the Olympics from Brazil and move them to another city that can handle the Olympics- Like Los Angles, London, Chicago, New York etc.
Brazil is not ready for prime time for the Olympics and they need to be moved.

I Hope She Wins

From the New York Daily News:
She asked for paper - but all they offered was plastic.
A Pennsylvania woman is now suing the McDonald's franchise that refused to pay her by check and instead insisted on employees using payroll debit cards.
I'm looking for the pay I am owed and for them to understand there has to be an option," Natalie Gunshannon, 27, told the Citizen's Voice newspaper.
Gunshannon worked less than a month at the Shavertown McDonald's location when she learned that the franchise required employees to accept payment on a J.P. Morgan Chase payroll card. But the card, she contends, imposes fees on virtually every transaction, creating a monetary and physical barrier to her hard-earned cash. Among the costs, according to her lawsuit: $1.50 for an ATM withdrawal, $5 for over-the-counter cash withdrawals and $1 to check the balance. There's even a charge to pay a bill online or if the card is lost or stolen.
"When they work hard and earn their wages, why should they have to pay fees to collect their rightful wages?" her attorney, Mike Cefalo, told the Wilkes Barre Times-Leader.
Gunshannon, a single mother, made $7.44 an hour during her three weeks at the fast-food chain. Minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Coupled with the fees, Gunshannon says she was not making enough money. And when she asked to be paid another way, the franchise's owner allegedly told her the card was the only option.
Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/mcdonald-owners-sued-wage-debit-card-article-1.1375287#ixzz2WY9Gxmib
The McDonalds in question should have had least another option- a paper check or direct deposit.
Wal-Mart does pay on a debit card, but there are no fees for using it.
But to use a bank that charges you for using it, with no other options is just plain wrong and the employees involved don't make a lot of money to begin with.
So, I do hope the owners decide to use an alternate- a paper check or direct deposit besides the debit card and let the employee choose which they want to use.
Otherwise, I hope the owners lose big time in court.

And Yet Maher And Bill Handel Still Have Jobs

Bill Handel.jpg
Handel: Thinks it's cool to pick on disabled children
From the San Fran Chronicle: The cast of an Atlanta sports radio show has been fired after mocking a former NFL player who has Lou Gehrig's disease, a station official said Monday.
The show, Mayhem in the AM, was broadcast on 790 The Zone Monday morning. In a statement, General Manager Rick Mack said the station regrets comments made about ex-New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason.
The 36-year-old suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS patients lose the ability to speak and move, which has happened to Gleason.
The station lists the hosts as Nick Cellini, Steak Shapiro and Chris Dimino. But Mack didn't give the names of those fired.
During the segment, two of the on-air personalities took a call from a third host who pretended to be Gleason by using a voice that sounded automated — mimicking another famous ALS patient, Stephen Hawking.
The host pretending to be Gleason told a series of jokes and eventually asked the two others to do him a favor by smothering him.  http://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/Ga-radio-hosts-fired-mocked-ex-player-with-ALS-4605913.php
Bill Maher, the unfunny "man" picks on children with Down Syndrome.
And Bill Handel of Handel on the Law talk show mocks kids with Angelman's Syndrome and kids with intellectual disabilities.
And these two idiots haven't been fired.  Maybe Maher is popular with the left and Handel, probably no one has heard of him or listen to his show, so no one was around to complain.
I guess it makes these two "men" feel manly because they pick on disabled children.

Obamaville: 8 More Shot On A Monday

After 46 people were shot during the weekend, the Obamaville shooters continued on Monday with 8 more people shot.
From the Chicago Tribune: At least eight people have been shot today on the South and West Sides, authorities said.
The first person shot, described only as an adult male, was wounded at 1:13 p.m. in the 11000 block of South Ashland Avenue in the city's Morgan Park neighborhood, according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.
The man was taken in serious-to-critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County, according to Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.   http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-2-shootings-reported-on-south-side-20130617,0,6999487.story
I think the Las Vegas oddsmakers ought to set the over/under for the number of people shot in Chicago.  Maybe 2500 shooting victims for the year?
This doesn't even include those shooters who are bad shots and miss their targets.
Only in Obamaville.

Finally, Some Common Sense In Nevada Education

From the LVRJ:
He wore the cap and gown.
He walked the stage.
He exchanged a handshake for a diploma case.
Rondo Steven Wright was even listed as a diploma candidate in the graduation program, just like everyone else. But Wright didn’t receive a diploma from the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts on Wednesday.
In its place, a certificate of attendance.
“That’s for people who just showed up,” said Wright, frustrated because he passed the required courses and the state-mandated high school proficiency exams in reading, science and math on his first attempts.
He wasn’t able to pass the writing test, but thought he would at least get an adjusted diploma.
The state requires — or required up until two Mondays ago — that students pass all four exams to earn a diploma. The certificate goes to students who meet credit requirements for graduation but fail one or more sections of the proficiency exams.
Although it doesn’t change Wright’s situation, the four proficiency exams are being phased out. The Nevada Legislature decided two days before the school year ended on June 5 that the exams, criticized for being out of alignment with curriculum, will end 2014-15.
But students shouldn’t breathe a sigh of relief just yet.
Four new exams, also required for graduation, will be introduced, but many questions remain. The Nevada State Board of Education made some decisions Thursday, deciding that students who were freshmen, sophomores and juniors in 2012-13 must still take and pass the existing proficiency exams to graduate.
The rationale: It’s bad policy, perhaps illegal, to change students’ graduation requirements midway through high school.
“You end with what you start with; that’s the general rule,” said Stanley Rabinowitz, an education accountability consultant for Nevada.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/education/state-kills-high-school-exit-exams-no-help-years-seniors
The certificates of attendance, a consolation prize for almost-graduates like Wright, are also being discontinued.
As a result, Clark County’s 49 high school graduations will look smaller. About 1,000 Clark County seniors received the certificates instead of diplomas each year. They no longer will be allowed to take part in commencement, and they’ll receive nothing showing they met the credit requirements for a diploma but failed the proficiency tests.
Outside Clark County, only about 300 certificates of attendance are handed out annually to Nevada seniors.
“You either graduate or you don’t,” said Interim State Superintendent of Schools Rorie Fitzpatrick , describing how there will be no replacement for the certificate, which confuses students and parents by making them think they have graduated. “And they didn’t.”....
When the transition is complete, all high school students must pass two end-of-course exams in English language arts and two end-of-course exams in math designed to be in line with the recently adopted Common Core Standards.
“And the Common Core world is more rigorous than that of Nevada’s previous standards,” Rabinowitz said.
The way it was- proficiency testing was a waste of time and money.  Tests were giving 2-3 times a year and during these testing times, little teaching was going on, especially for those who had teachers who were giving the tests.
The money spent on writing, correcting and giving out results cost the state and school districts millions of dollars a year.  Hopefully, these costs will be reduced.
As far as students like Mr. Wright mentioned above, hopefully it will graduate more students, though it baffles me why he never passed the writing portion of the test, especially since he took the test at least 9 times or more, could have taken tutoring lessons and so forth.  The writing portion, in my own opinion, is probably the easiest test there is.

If You Like Roller Coasters, This Would Be For You

From the LVRJ: As Las Vegas turns to high-adrenaline rides to freshen its appeal to visitors, one developer has quietly started to move ahead with a roller coaster that would look down on all but one building on the Strip.
U.S. Thrill Rides LLC has submitted plans to the Federal Aviation Administration in April to build the 650-foot-tall Polercoaster, the company’s name for a scream machine that combines an observation tower with a coaster on the way up and down. Due to the height and location — a map with the application shows it at the Tropicana — the agency must assess any potential hazard posed to the planes flying in and out of nearby McCarran International Airport.
Because the FAA is still evaluating the project, critical pieces such as financing and a firm deal on the site still have not fallen into place.
However, U.S. Thrill Rides president Michael Kitchen said the company has already held discussions with banks willing to furnish loans for the Polercoaster, with an estimated cost approaching $100 million.
He declined to comment on the location. A spokeswoman for Tropicana did not comment.
“This will be the tallest roller coaster in the world,” he said. “Since Las Vegas is one of the top tourist destinations in the world, we think it will get higher visibility and foot traffic than other places.”
Windmere, Fla.-based U.S. Thrill Rides has built about 300 rides, many of them roller coasters for amusement parks. Company founder and CEO Bill Kitchen, Michael Kitchen’s father, said he conceived the Polercoaster idea as a way to add thrill ride to an existing destination that lacks much open land.  http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/tourism/full-scream-ahead-company-proposes-650-foot-tall-roller-coaster-strip
A roller coaster that goes up 65 floors would be kind of cool, if you like heights and roller coasters- not me, mind you, but it would be interesting to watch.
My guess is that it would run about $25 a ride.

TV Show "Tanked" Tanked In Applebee's Fish Tank Diaster

From the New York Daily News:
The new Applebee’s restaurant in Coney Island celebrates its grand opening Monday — and death is on the menu.
A Blacktip shark named Zane had to be removed Friday from the restaurant’s 5,000-gallon aquarium after devouring three Lookdown fish in a shocking killing spree.
That very same day, a Whitetip shark died after colliding with a three-foot Wonder Wheel replica in the tank, leaving employees shaken by the mayhem.
The sharks “were in shock. We moved them in too quickly,” said Applebee’s owner Zane Tankel, who saw the bloodthirsty $4,000 shark, his namesake, hauled to an aquarium in the aptly named Fishkill, N.Y. due to its poor table manners.
“They went from being in an ocean to being in a tank. They were all disoriented,” Tankel added.
The chaos was captured by a camera crew filming an episode of the reality show "Tanked" on Animal Planet.

And from The Brooklyn Daily Eagle:
As Coney Island continues its slow recovery from the damage Hurricane Sandy left behind nearly seven months ago, a national chain restaurant is getting set to open a franchise in the storm-torn community.
Apple-Metro, Inc., the company that owns Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants in the tri-state area, is opening a restaurant on June 17 on Surf Avenue between Stillwell Avenue and West 12th Street. It will be the company’s sixth Applebee’s restaurant in Brooklyn.
“We’re not opening just any Applebee’s. This one is going to be very special,” Zane Tankel, CEO of Apple-Metro Inc., told the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. “In honor of the fact that Coney Island is right off the Atlantic Ocean, we’re putting in a giant fish tank. It’s so huge, it serves as a room divider,” he said.
The fish tank is 20 feet long and 10 feet wide. It contains 4,300 gallons of water. To create the fish tank, Applebee’s teamed up with Wayde King from Long Island and Brett Raymer from Brooklyn, co-owners of Las Vegas-based Acrylic Tank Manufacturing the stars of Animal Planet’s hit series http://animal.discovery.com/tv-shows/tanked “TANKED.” The tank will house sharks and other exotic specimens, Tankel said.  http://www.brooklyneagle.com/articles/applebee%E2%80%99s-open-new-eatery-sandy-torn-coney-island-2013-05-16-201500

The Fish are arriving! Can’t wait to see them in their new home. Thanks and !!!
So, were the "Tanked" people/crew involved with placing the fish in the tank too early because of a filming deadline?
Was it an honest mistake?
Did the owner order the fish in despite what the "Tanked" thought was best?
The tank certainly looks nice but building a tank is one thing but putting fish in it is another.
So, who screwed up that some expensive fish died?

Government Speak

From the Washington Post: President Obama has chosen a high-powered Washington lawyer with extensive government experience to be the State Department’s new special envoy for closing down the prison at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.
Officials familiar with the decision said Clifford Sloan is the pick to reopen the State Department’s Office of Guantanamo Closure. The office was closed in January.   http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/obama-names-clifford-sloan-to-lead-guantanamo-bay-closure/2013/06/16/a841100e-d6d3-11e2-8cbe-1bcbee06f8f8_story.html

Possessed Computer?

Something has gotten a hold of my computer.  With my old computer, I rarely had a problem with bugs and viruses and now, it seems it's a day to day problem.
These problems are irritating and I can deal with.
However, what freaks me out is that several times in the past 2 months, and in the middle of the night, music starts playing on the computer.  No music I ever have listened to and it's not a radio station.
Further, all my windows are closed, the Internet Explorer windows are closed and so my computer is basically shut down.  When the music is playing, no windows are opened.
So, to those computer guys out there, what's going on?
Is my computer possessed?
Is my computer being hacked by the government?
Someone playing games with my computer.
A virus or bug doing this?
Anybody have any ideas?

Obama: Do As I Say, Not As I Do

From the White House Dossier:
First Lady Michelle Obama is staying Monday evening in the $3,300-per-night Princess Grace suite of Dublin’s Five-Star Shelbourne Hotel, according to Irish press reports, adding some credence to accusations she is in the city for a quick vacation at taxpayer expense.
Michelle jetted to Dublin Monday afternoon Irish time after a brief stop in Belfast with President Obama, who is in the city for the two-day G-8 Summit.
The White House is billing Michelle’s trip to Dublin as having diplomatic significance, but her itinerary suggests otherwise. She and her daughters will visit the Trinity College library to explore President Obama’s Irish family roots, attend a performance by the world-famous Riverdance troupe, and visit the Wicklow Mountains national forest.
Judging by the tail number of her plane on the ground at Dublin Airport, it appears Air Force Two has been flown to Europe along with Air Force One and is being used to transport Michelle around....
According to press reports out of Ireland, 30 rooms have been booked in the hotel to accomodate Michelle and her entourage, which would presumably include various staff and a bevy of Secret Service agents.
The city will be plagued by traffic jams during Michelle’s visit, and according to one report, high school and university students are in danger of being late for final exams and are advised to allow for plenty of extra time for travel.
After visiting Dublin, Mrs. Obama and her daughters will join President Obama in Berlin for the second leg of his European trip.   http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2013/06/17/michelle-stay-3300anight-dublin-hotel-suite/
And this is just for Queen Michelle.  And the reason she can't stay with the President?  Oh wait, he may be having his fling with an Irish gal and Michelle would just be in the way.

Not Good Planning

From the Houston Chronicle:
A burglary suspect was shot by a homeowner in Spring early Sunday.
The homeowner, an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, fired at the suspect when he entered his house to search for valuables, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect fled in a white car. Harris County Precinct 4 constables stopped the car near Kuykendahl and FM 1960.
The suspect was wounded in the arm and transported to the hospital in good condition.  http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/ATF-agent-shoots-would-be-robber-at-his-Spring-4603648.php
Rule #1 if you are going to rob a house: know who you are going to rip off.  If they a ATF agent, it's best to skip them and go to an old lady's house.

Obama's Chicago: 7 Dead, 46 Shot

Yep,. this is what happens when you allow Obamaites incharge.
From the Chicago Tribune:
As she headed out the door Sunday morning, Adrianne Wilberton put on a brave face. It was time to tell one of her sons the news, and she didn’t want him hearing it from anyone else.
But her composure unraveled as she walked toward the car, a barrage of neighbors hugging her on the way out of her apartment. By the time she reached the front lawn, the mother of six was in tears.
“Our son is dead! Oh Jesus!” the 57-year-old screamed, referring to her other son, Cortez, who was killed earlier that morning on Chicago’s West Side. “Oh my God! Oh my God! We were just talking.”
At least 33 people were shot — six of them fatally — Saturday afternoon through Father's Day Sunday, stretching from 94th Street and Loomis Avenue on the South Side up to about North Avenue and North Pulaski Road on the Northwest Side, according to authorities. The youngest person who was killed during one of the bloodiest weekends in Chicago this year was 16.
Shootings from Friday afternoon into Saturday left another 13 people shot, 1 fatally. The combined tally resulted in 46 people shot, and seven killed this weekend. Last year at about the same time, there were 53 people shot, nine fatally in one weekend.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-chicago-crime-shooting-gun-violence-marquette-park,0,2169540.story
