I hate going to the dentist. Not because dentists are bad people or do a bad job, but I had a very bad experience at a dentist and it has scared me from going to the dentist.
When I was a young child and then growing up to adulthood, I went to the dentist regularly, until the time I was living in North Dakota and in the Air Force. After I got out of the Air Force but still living in North Dakota, I had a cavity and when the dentist was drilling, his drill skipped off the tooth and landed in my tongue. Not on my tongue, mind you, but it went into my tongue. I bled for three days and I couldn't taste food for at least 6 months. Back then, I called it a mistake and didn't do anything about it. Today, if I had wanted, I could sue and get a nice cash settlement.
Anyways, that experience scarred me for a very, very long time. Even though I always had dental insurance, I never went to the dentist. I never had a major problem with my teeth- no teeth pain and I brushed my teeth at least 2 times a day.
Well, I decided to go to the dentist 2 weeks ago and found out that I have 15 cavities. Hell, I didn't even think that was possible. Again, no teeth pain or any other symptom.
Well, today, the doctor was drilling and filling and the way he was talking, I think I just bought him a small boat or because this is Las Vegas, a new home.
They numbed me up so I wouldn't feel no pain, but to say I was scared, is an understatement. However, Dr. Smith, who practices on Sunset, just west of Green Valley Parkway did a good job. He's a bit eccentric but he kept me at ease for the two hours I was in the chair.
But, now, the numbness is wearing off, so, it might be a few beers, some pain medication and then a very early bed time. The sad part is that he is not done yet and I have to schedule round 2 in the next few weeks.
One thing Dr. Smith said that surprised me is that there is a glut of dentists in Las Vegas and times are tough for them. Back in the day, you had to wait 3 months for an appointment, now, you can see a dentist the same day you call for an appointment.
So, if you are looking for a good dentist, check out Dr. Smith on Sunset- he's a Wisconsin guy and graduated from the Marquette Dental School.
In the meantime, I probably can take a shot from UFC star on my jaw and not feel a thing, at least not now.
Well, you have to be interesting.
