Another Snooze Fest For NASCAR

NASCAR Driver at the 2011 Michigan 400

NASCAR is getting about as exciting as soccer or listening to Crybaby Harry Reid sing opera. It is just getting more boring, especially at the large oval tracks.. Last week, they had an exciting race but this week at Michigan, the Sprint Cup drivers were driving like grandma going to the doctor office in the middle of the week.
Today, they raced at Michigan and former Las Vegan, Kyle Busch won. Once again, very little close side by side racing and very little bump drafting.
NASCAR is losing fans, both at the track on TV and the boring races have a lot to do with it. One reason for the decline of attendance is that the races start so early so on the West Coast. Today's race started at 10 AM out West. People are either waking up at 10, at church, having breakfast or whatever. Watching NASCAR at 10AM is not a priority except to die hard fans.
And another reason for the decline is the races are just getting too boring. I took a nap during the race today and when I woke up a half hour later, not much changed in the race.
When you have a bunch of millionaire drivers who are too afraid to race close because they are afraid to scratch their car like a grandma going to church on Sunday, you are going to get the boring races.
So, what can be done? More restrictor plate racing would be nice. A large track like Michigan and Indy should be able to race with restrictor plates and make the races more interesting.
Another thing would be is to get rid of the start and parkers. Today, there were about 5 start and parkers, but there was at least 1 driver, Robby Gordon, who did not qualify but if he was in the race, he would have run the whole race. It's time to get rid of the start and parkers- they are a joke and do nothing to enhance the competition.
If NASCAR doesn't do anything, they are going to continue to bleed fans and lose more sponsorships and with this economy, NASCAR cannot afford to do that.

  1. Absolutely agree. I was totally disappointed with the Michigan race - if the style of racing on these tracks can't be changed, the TV stations could at least do some better production directing (or whatever you call it) with more 'high up' views so we can actually see what's going on on the track. Thank god at least the Fox part of the season is over so I don't have to 'crank it up' one more time. Once or twice a race is cool, but there's no way to see what is going on during an exciting restart when the camera angle is at 1 foot elevation, watching blurs of cars go by . . .

By the way, happened on your blog searching about boring NASCAR, but the name of your blog is great - my blog, incidentally, is borsuknapradze.blogspot.com, which means 'a Badger in Praga' in Polish. Coincidence.

    Cheers!
