Assemblyman Micah Kellner made life a living hell for a young staffer who rejected his online come-ons, a source told the Daily News.
“It was horrible,” said a source who worked in Kellner’s office at the time. “It was a terrible poisonous situation.”
Kellner’s alleged treatment of the twenty-something staffer is the latest sexual harassment claim to rock the state Assembly.
It comes just two months after a shocking ethics commission investigation found that Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver buried allegations against former Assemblyman Vito Lopez that enabled the powerful former Brooklyn Democratic party boss to continue preying on women.
Silver, who has vowed to better protect harassment victims, says that’s he’s pushed out a top legal advisor who failed to investigate the Kellner allegations after learning about them four years ago but the aide, Bill Collins, remains on the state payroll a full six weeks after the speaker says he learned of the matter.
A Silver rep said “details are still being worked out” about the departure of Collins, who makes more than $145,000 a year, but his exit is not fast enough for s critics who say Silver has shown a callous disregard for victims.
“Sheldon Silver should have taken immediate action to remove an individual who neglected to properly handle the situation,” said state GOP spokesman David Laska....
But the source who worked in the office said that after the woman rejected Kellner’s advances, he became a totally different boss.
“She was treated very badly after she told him to stop,” the source said. “He completely changed the way he treated her in the office ... He picked apart everything she did ... It was the definition of a hostile environment.”
