This case is just strange.
From The Las Vegas Sun: A man shot by Las Vegas police Tuesday night has died.
The 35-year-old man was shot after he broke into a home in the 9000 block of Crystal Rock Circle. He was wearing only underwear and brandishing a knife.
Police said a resident came home about 5 p.m. to find the man sitting on his couch with a large knife.
SWAT units tried to negotiate with the man but were unable to draw him out. Police used several tactics before the shooting, including dogs, Tasers and rubber bullets. But the man could not be subdued.
Officers ultimately entered the back of the house to try to arrest the man, who was also carrying a hammer. The man ran away, but encountered more officers entering the front of the house. Two officers fired their weapons, police said. The man was hit several times. He was taken to University Medical Center. Police initially said his condition was stable, but the man died either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
The officers were placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident. http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/crime-courts/man-shot-las-vegas-police-tuesday-dies
This story went from a funny story to a tragic story.
It does make me wonder why the guy had to be shot- while he had a knife and hammer, he was isolated from everyone and not causing harm.
The cops rush in, try a couple of ways to subdue the guy and failed.
They then went in with full force and they end up shooting and killing they guy.
Something seems wrong with this picture. Sure, the victim was a idiot and more than likely, on drugs.
I also understand the need to end the situation, but could they have waited a little longer and regrouped before they tried something again? Maybe a concussion grenade? Hell, maybe even a fire hose. Of course it would have caused damage but it may have saved a life.
I support the cops 99% of the time, but at times, it is difficult to do so and in this case, while still early in the investigation, does cause me some trouble.
