Harry Reid: Saving City Center Jobs: Plaza Hotel Lays Off 400

When Harry Reid said that he saved 22,000, he forgot to mention that other casinos and hotels had to lay off workers because of the glut of hotel rooms and that players that go to the City Center casino to play games, came from another casino.
So, today, the Plaza Hotel and Casino announced that they are going to layoff 400 employees while they do renovations.
From the Las Vegas Sun: "More than 400 employees of the Plaza Hotel & Casino face layoffs in the next 60 days as the downtown Las Vegas property closes its 1,037-room hotel and portions of its casino in early November.
While the company says the hotel closure will be followed by planned renovations of all guestrooms and hallways, it appears the closure is also associated with the recession that has hurt the Las Vegas gaming industry -- with downtown taking an especially brutal hit.
The Plaza will be "minimizing operations'' on Nov. 11, property manager Bobby Ray Harris told employees in a memo last week."

Harry Reid is running commercials bragging that he saved 22,000 City Center jobs. I honestly don't know if that is true or not. But giving him the benefit of the doubt, let's say he did save those jobs. In return for saving those jobs, he cost other people their jobs because City Center helped create a glut of hotel rooms, restaurants, casinos and shops. Visitors to Las Vegas and locals are finite but the new mega hotels and casinos, including City Center, helped to create the glut, thus people are going to lose their jobs at other properties.
Unemployment did not go down when City Center opened but in fact, it went up and it continues to go up.
So, Harry Reid is blowing smoke when he brags about saving City Center jobs. He also cost hundreds if not thousands of people their jobs when City Center opened. I am sure those people are thrilled with Harry.

  2. It is important to point out that the honest games providers also pay out the most winnings to players. They can afford to pay more because they’re driven by profit. Online casinos can well afford to pay their players whenever they win because there’s still plenty of profit to be earned by the operator.
