According to Channel 13 News at 6:00, the young thug put the knife to a school staff member and took her out into the hallway. The thug also took a swing at the school's Dean.
From the LVRJ: A 14-year-old male student at Monaco Middle School faces charges of kidnapping, bringing a deadly weapon to campus and assault with a deadly weapon after holding a switchblade knife to a school secretary's throat and trying to stab the school's dean about 8 a.m. today , according to Las Vegas police.
The dean dodged the "swiping" motion of the student's knife and then later persuaded the boy to remove the knife from the secretary's throat, police officer Barbara Morgan said.

As a teacher in the district and my school is close to this school, it pains me to see this happen, but things like this do happen in schools throughtout the district and the country. I've been hit several times, including being knocked out once. Not at an inner city school, mind you, but a rural school in lily white Marquette County, WI.
Metro is doing the primary investigation because of the seriousness of the charges and the possible involvement of gangs in some way.
It is a shame that this kid did this and probably screwed up the rest of his life for a 1 minute crime spree.
