Meet The Candidate: Dwight D.Jones

Mr. Dwight Jones is a finalist for Superintendent for CCSD. He is from Colorado and has been a classroom teacher and several administrator positions.
Mr. Jones is currently in charge Colorado Department of Education, similar to what we have here in Nevada. They are in charge of licensing of school personnel and trying to implement different programs. ( CDE is the administrative arm of the Colorado State Board of Education. CDE serves Colorado's 178 local school districts, providing them with leadership, consultation and administrative services on a statewide and regional basishttp://www.cde.state.co.us/cdecomm/aboutcde.htm ) Mr. Jones main focus seems to be closing the achievement gap between students. Mr. Jones is a former Superintendent of the Fountain-Fort Carson School District, a small to medium size school district in Colorado. It has about 6500 students. He was appointed to his post at CDE in 2007. http://www.suite101.com/content/dwight-d-jones-leads-colorado-education-a164237
I am not sure what his educational background, but since he is not addressed as doctor or has a PhD after his name, I assume he does not have doctorate.
He has had some problems with his spending while in charge of the CDE: Called out by reporters, Colorado Commissioner of Education Dwight Jones continues to cut back on his spendthrift ways.
Jones recently returned $940 to the state, to cover 2 ½ years of personal phone calls made on his state-issued cellphone. That’s nearly half the $2,227 charged to his phone since he took office.
“He knew about the policy, and he just hadn’t done it,” said department spokesman Mark Stevens. “It was an oversight.”
Jones recently fielded questions after a
news investigation into his department’s spending. At the end of last fiscal year, the Colorado Department of Education spent $12,000 on new furniture, $13,600 on plasma televisions—all while Commissioner Dwight Jones treated employees and colleagues to $80-a-head dinners at some of Denver’s fanciest restaurants.

For whatever it is worth, Mr. Jones is black.
