From Channel 8 News: It has been nearly two weeks and there are still no arrests in the murder of 17-year-old Betty Jean Pinkney. She was shot and killed at a house party near Alexander Road and Lamb Boulevard early on the morning of January 15.
Friends and family gathered to remember her today. They say someone needs to come forward so police can catch her killer.
Pinkney was killed and another person was shot when gunfire broke out at the party. Family members say an argument between two men resulted in the shooting. The other woman who was shot is expected to survive.
"Whoever is responsible for this is going to get caught. They are not going to get away with it," said her cousin James Jacobs.http://www.8newsnow.com/story/16620272/friends-family-remember-murdered-teen
The silence in this case is stunning. It's not like there were no witnesses at the party. There were about 100 people in and round the party.
It's not like anybody heard about the shooting and who did the shooting. Kids at school were talking about the shooting, what happened and why the shooter shot. I am sure there are people at school and the neighborhood who knows who did this, but the code of no snitching is alive and well in the neighborhood.
It's not like the supposed black leaders in the community spoke out about this shooting and the violence in the neighborhoods of Las Vegas. Ricki Barlow of the City of Las Vegas and Lawrence Weekly of Clark County and the clergy of this Valley, I guess you guys can't be bothered by the violence in the neighborhoods. I guess if a murder of a good kid, who is an athlete, who is well liked, does well academically, never in trouble and gives hugs to severely disabled kids every day doesn't get you to speak out, then you are just wasting space in your political office or in your pulpit.
I really hope the cops investigating this murder are doing their very best and not just say that this is just another black kid in the Valley murdered and who really cares. Knowing Las Vegas Metro, I doubt this, but then we don't even have a description of the shooter and the public doesn't have a clue about who they are looking for. Maybe they are also suffering from the sound of silence.
So, the sound of silence is deafening in the Las Vegas valley, especially the northeast side of Las Vegas. Perhaps, if Weekly, Barlow and clergy would get off their collective asses and speak out, then maybe there will be fewer violent crimes in Las Vegas. But, maybe that doesn't fit their agendas.
Hopefully, the thugs who killed Betty will be caught and be taken out the DNA pool by going to prison for life or the death penalty, but nothing will happen as long as there is the sound of silence in Las Vegas.
