At St, Andrews, of the Scotland, they had a heck of a round of golf.
Michael Phelps, the gold medal swimmer, sunk a 153 foot putt. from ESPN: Michael Phelps can putt a little, too.
The Olympic swimming
great upstaged some of golf's finest players Friday by sinking an
astonishing 153-foot putt during the second round of team play at the
Dunhill Links Championship.
The putt came after Phelps drove the front edge of the green on the
par-4 sixth hole at Kingsbarn. He then stepped up with his putter for
his second shot, stroked the ball and watched as it rolled and rolled
downhill and into the cup.
It took about 17 seconds for the ball to land in the hole, or slightly quicker than it takes Phelps to swim 50 yards.
Phelps,
playing the team event with a 16 handicap, received a stroke on the
hole and signed for an aggregate '1' on his scorecard.
"That was
the longest putt I've ever holed," said the winner of 18 Olympic gold
medals. "It was pretty incredible, watching it dive in was a pretty cool
feeling. So to be able to have a net hole-in-one was pretty special. http://espn.go.com/golf/story/_/id/8466396/michael-phelps-sinks-153-foot-putt-dunhill-team-play
Well, my guess is that not too many other people have sunk 153 foot putts either.
Earlier in the round, a dog stole a ball off the green. From ESPN: While lining up an eagle putt on the 12th green, Paul Casey ended up in the "ruff."
The Englishman was 20 feet from the cup on his third hole Friday at
the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship when a dog ran onto the green and
ran off with his ball.
"It's the weirdest thing I've ever had
happen on a golf course," said Casey, who was playing at Kingsbarns. "I
noticed the dog on the 12th tee and he sort of followed us down the
fairway before taking a real liking to my golf ball."
Casey, who
is partnered with Olympic great Michael Phelps in the pro-am event, was
ready to play with another ball but a spectator stopped the pooch near
the 13th tee and recovered the original. http://espn.go.com/golf/story/_/id/8464749/pooch-steals-paul-casey-ball-amid-alfred-dunhill-links-championship-eagle-try
That was a heck of a round of golf that both golfers and the fans who were there, will remember.
