A Nellis airman has been killed in Afghanistan, making him the 4th airman killed from Nellis this year.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Senior Airman Michael J. Buras, 23, of Fitzgerald, Ga., had been in Kandahar, Afghanistan, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom when the IED detonated, also injuring two other airmen.
Buras, the recipient of the Purple Heart from a previous deployment, was assigned to the 99th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal team at Nellis, according to Nellis Air Force Base officials.

A Question To Ask At The Scott Inquest
At the eric Scott inquest, the DA is still trying to establish that Eric Scott was a drug junkie, seeking legal narcotics. They are still interviewing pain doctors.
My question is this: Will the police officers that killed Scott be required to undergo the same medical scrunity at the inquest? The officer's drinking habits? Did they do a drug test on the officers?
Somehow, I doubt it.

The Trashing Of Eric Scott
Today starts the inquest of Eric Scott, the man who was killed at the Summerlin Costco by Metro police.
Right now, they are talking about Eric Scott's use of narcotic medicine and trashing Scott about it.
Excuse me if I just ask this question. What the hell does this have to with the shooting? Absolutely nothing. The cops didn't know he was on pain medication. The DA is just using this information for the sole purpose of trashing Eric Scott.
As a person who lives with chronic back pain and at times has to take strong pain medicine, the medicine has nothing to do with my behavior and I am sure it had nothing to do with his behavior at Costco.
So, maybe the DA and Metro will get to the facts of the shooting soon.

Party At The Hardrock? Staged And/or Fake?
I was watching Party at the Hard Rock and it was really staged.
The first clue was when they showed a scene in which they showed a Metro police car. While the car looked sort of real, but the telling part was the license plate was a regular Nevada license plate. A police car in Nevada has an exempt license plate. The plate has a big EX on it, plus the numbers. This Metro car they showed on TV didn't have that.
Second, the best man at the cabana where they had a stolen credit all of a sudden hit it big at the blackjack table. Umm, no. While it is possible, it's highly unlikely, especially, at Black Jack, unless you gamble really, really big.
So, it seems like some those scenes in the show, it is staged, though they pretend it is real. Some of those scenes are as fake as the boob jobs some of the ladies have.

So, What To Do With Kid Of Illegals?
With the Dream Act shot down, the question is this, what should we do with kids of parents who came to the U.S. illegally. Good question.
Many of these kids came to the U.S. when they were young children, but not always. We have kids who come to the U.S. when they are older teenagers, with their families.
But for the sake of argument, you have a child who comes when they a small child, say 5 years old. By the time they have graduated from college, they have received an education from kindergarten on up to 12th grade. That is about $100,000 worth of free education that they did not pay for. If they have received free lunch, that is almost another $7000. That's just education. Then if they have received any emergency medical care, social services and other government benefits and that can add up, depending on the family. Further, if a child is in special education, the education cost can easily double or triple.
Even if the family paid taxes, and I doubt if many do, that doesn't come close to what the American and local taxpayers have given to this child.
So, by the time the child has completed high school, the child has received quite amount of taxpayer money and now, with the Dream Act, they feel they are entitled to more. Look at the Las Vegas Sun article: "Anaya, who was born in Mexico and came to America as a child, was directly impacted by Tuesday’s vote against the defense bill. She had hopes of attending UNLV on scholarship but now won’t be able to.
“We finally had something. We could have done something about it, but it was just shut down,” she said. “My heart sinks. I told my mom I thought this would go through; we were doing so much.”
And this from a CCSD teacher: "A Spanish teacher from the West Career and Technical Academy, Elizabeth Campbell, said many of her students would benefit from passage of the DREAM Act.
“When you think about kids who have been here five years or more, they don’t have a life to go back to anywhere else,” Campbell said. “We’ve already invested thousands of dollars in these kids’ education; let them work. Let them pay back. They’re American.”

Umm, no, they are not citizens of the United States. But I do agree, let them work, let them pay their expenses back.
But, what should we do with these kids. Sending them back to their country of origin is not the answer but neither is giving them amnesty.
If a parent is caught committing a crime, seeking social services or free medical care, the parent and kids need to be deported.
If a child commits a crime, they have to be deported, regardless if they spent little time in their country of origin, they go back.
If a child and their family stays out of trouble, then let them stay but make them go to the end of the line in getting citizenship and as Harry wants, pay a fine, pass a test, learn English and pay back taxes.

Eight Democrat scoundrels in Bell, CA. who stole millions of dollars from taxpayers of City of Bell were arrested today.
From Fox News: "The mayor and former city manager of Bell were led away in handcuffs Tuesday, charged with six other officials with taking more than $5.5 million from the working-class suburb in a scandal that triggered nationwide outrage and calls for more transparency in government.
Former City Manager Robert Rizzo, Mayor Oscar Hernandez and the other current and former city officials were rounded up during morning raids on their homes that prompted many of their neighbors to burst into cheers.
They were charged with dozens of counts of illegally paying themselves huge salaries in what District Attorney Steve Cooley called a case of "corruption on steroids."

Dream Act Turns Out To Be Nightmare For Reid
Harry Reid was supposed to bring the Dream Act to the Senate floor today but he never got a chance to do so because of bi-partisan support of the filibuster of the military spending bill. From The Las Vegas Sun: "Republicans largely painted Tuesday’s 56-43 vote on the motion to proceed to the bill – not enough to achieve the 60-vote supermajority needed to avoid filibuster – as a referendum on the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which prevents gays from serving openly in the military, and was part of the underlying defense authorization bill.
But by not even opening the floor for debate on the enormous annual spending package to fund various military programs and campaigns, “no” voters have set Congress up for a potential result it hasn’t seen for almost 50 years – the possibility that Congress will not pass any defense authorization bill at all."

For some reason, Reid thought he had the votes but it turned out he didn't. Even though I am conservative, I have no problem repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The main reason is that gays, just as straights, have to live with the Uniform Code Of Military Justice and it is strict. So the behavior that conservatives are afraid that gays would do would not happen because of the UCMJ.
But the Dream Act is a different ball game altogether. Illegal aliens should not serve in the military, plain and simple. They should not get special benefits for going to college. And the illegals should not get amnesty, which is Harry's goal.
Reid totally screwed this up. He could have gotten these bills a few months ago or last year, but he chose not to. While I realize the liberals will blame conservatives for this fiasco, it was Harry Reid and the Democrat leadership that screwed it up. They are to blame for their failures.

Pawn Stars Review: September 21, 2010
It's been a nice week in Las Vegas- temperatures in the upper 90's and lows in the upper 60's. Nice time to visit Las Vegas but us locals want it to be cooler.
In the first episode, the first guy brought in an old fashioned mini-slot machine. It used tokens instead of coins because it came from Colorado and was from the 1920's. It was missing major parts, including the payoff mechanism. The guy wanted $600 and that is what he got. Interesting to see if they would fix it up.
The next guy wanted to sell a 1973 CJ-5 Jeep. It was a restoration project that didn't go so well. The guy wanted $2500. The area where the guy lived looks familiar but just can't place it. Maybe the northeast side of Vegas Corey offered $1800 and that was the selling price. They fixed it up by Danny. They wantd the jeep to look Army green but when it was delivered it was not army green but the green you see in a sore full of puss. It was ugly. Horrible. The cost was $5500. they think they can sell it for $15,000. I doubt it. They took it out by the trails by Nellis AFB.
The next guy was a bails bondsman who had a guy skip out of court and now owes the court $50,000. He brought in a $20 liberty gold coin and has the potential to be worth a lot of money. Time for the expert, Andrew from American Coin Express of Las Vegas. http://www.americancoinexpress.com/ The coin was not the really the most expensive and the coin was worth $40,000, still not enough to cover the bail. Rick offered $30,000 and the guy wanted $40,000. The final was $34,000, cash.
The next guy brought in some photos and negatives from NASA from Apollo 17. Time for the expert, Mark, the curator of the Clark County Museum and also the McCarren Airport museum. He didn't think they were real negatives, but positives and the pictures were not rare. There was no sale because the pictures were worthless.

Time for an expert. He said the autographs were real. The guy wanted $5000. Rick offered $1500 and then $2000. No sale.
The next brought in a Bob Dylan "Self Portrait" album. Not a CD, but I real record. The guy wanted $150 and Rick wanted $50. Huh??? I have records like that, maybe I should bring in some records to the shop. Anyways it sold for $50. Chumlee was sent to find Bob Dylan who was in Vegas for a concert. Even though it was a set up for entertainment purposes, he could have done a meet and greet with Dylan. It was a really lame segment. Stupid, really. Supposedly, he found Dylan in front of Ceasar's Palace, outside and got the autograph made out to Chumlee.
The next guy wanted 1997 Fleetwood Discovery motor coach. Beautiful motor coach. You see a lot of these in Vegas all year round. The inside looked great but it said it had a queen size bed but at best it was a twin. He wanted $48,000. Corey thought the Old Man maybe interested in it for retirement purposes. Rick came out to take a look at it. Then the guy wanted $38,000. Rick offered $15,000 and then $20,000 and that was the selling price.
The next guy had a bunch of cowboy and western toys. The Lone Ranger and Tonto toys were included. It included toys, games, lunch boxes, toy guns etc. The guy wanted $15,000. Time for the expert, Johnny. The man wanted $15,000 but Rick offered $7000 and then $9500. That was the sale price. There was a Playboy magazine in with the western magazines. Hmm, how did that get in there?

Rick came out to take a look at it. Then the guy wanted $38,000. Rick offered $15,000 and then $20,000 and that was the selling price.
The next guy had a bunch of cowboy and western toys. The Lone Ranger and Tonto toys were included. It included toys, games, lunch boxes, toy guns etc. The guy wanted $15,000. Time for the expert, Johnny. The man wanted $15,000 but Rick offered $7000 and then $9500. That was the sale price. There was a Playboy magazine in with the western magazines. Hmm, how did that get in there?

The Las Vegas Pravda, aka Las Vegas Sun, is at it again. Today, the Nevada unemployment rate came out and set a new record. The unemployment rate is now 14.4%, which is up from 14.3 from last month.
But that is not news according to the Las Vegas Sun. I wonder why? Maybe because that reflects on the Democrats, especially Harry Reid, Dina Titus and Shelly Berkley. It almost may reflect poorly on the new raise of the Nevada minimum wage law, which went into effect a few months ago. Another liberal idea gone bad.

Strange Bird At Dog Fancier Park
The other morning, I took the two hounds to Dog Fancier Park, at the east end of Flamingo Ave. We saw a fairly large bird flying in the area and it kind of looked liked a Blue Heron and someone suggested a Sandhill Crane. I've seen Sandhill Cranes in WI. and it didn't look like a crane. But it didn't quite look like a Heron either. It was black in color, with a long beak, a long neck and large wings- maybe 2-3 feet from wing tip to wing tip.. When it flew, it didn't gain a lot of alititude and flew in circles. It seemed to enjoy the sprinklers that were turned on.

Breaking News: Lee County Superintendent Drops Out Of CCSD Job Race
The LVRJ is reporting that the Lee County Schools Superintendent, Dr. James Browder is dropping out of the CCSD superintendent job application process.
This is not surprising since he was being courted for a college job and also was fairly well liked in Lee County. But it seems like he took the college job.
Now CCSD is stuck with two inferior candidates for Superintendent. They have to reopen the search process immediately.

LVRJ liberal columnist, John L. Smith was arrested for DUI on the way back from the Nevada newspaper awards on Saturday night. Must have been one heck of the party.
The LVRJ published this information on the bottom left hand corner on page of the Nevada section, in the print edition of the LVRJ. They did not post this on their web site.
Smith said he was tired and that he was embarrassed. You think?

Penny: Why Did You Wait A Year?
Penny is a supposed mother of three who appears in a pro Harry Reid ad by the Patriot Majority PAC. She says she waited a year for City Center to open so she can work there. The ad has been flooding the Vegas TV market in the last couple of weeks.
My question is this: First, is Penny real. And if she is, why did she wait a year to start work at City Center?
Fact is that very few employees were hired by City Center from outside of MGM, which owns City Center.
And why did 'Penny" wait to get hired there? Did she apply for any other jobs while waiting to go to work at City Center?
I doubt there is a "Penny" and even if she does exist, I suspect there is a lot more to this story. People just did not get hired off the street to work at City Center. Most transferred in from other MGM properties.
So, I call BS on the Patriot Majority PAC on this commercial.

From the Washinton Examiner: Prof. Fred Gottheil told Front Page Magazine that he compiled a list of 675 email addresses from 900 signatures on a 2009 petition authored by Dr. David Lloyd, professor of English at the University of Southern California, urging the U.S. to abandon its ally, Israel. Prof. Gottheil discovered that six of the signers, who hailed from more than 150 college campuses, were members of his own faculty.
“Would these same 900 sign onto a statement expressing concern about human rights violations in the Muslim Middle East, such as honor killing, wife beating, female genital mutilation, and violence against gays and lesbians?” he wondered. “I felt it was worth a try.”

Feinstein's office couldn't tell me if her provision was in the bill, or if there would be an up-or-down vote on her amendment.
So, Reid had apparently not determined what the bill would include or what amendments will get floor votes. Or if he had, he hasn't told any Republicans. It looks like Reid doesn't have his act together, and he's blaming Coburn.

In today's print newspaper of the Las Vegas Sun and the LVRJ, they are patting themselves on the back for winning the best journalism awards for the year in the State of Nevada. Considering there are only about 6 daily newspapers and a very small handful of weekly newspapers in the State, to win an award is not that big of deal. Poor Choice Of Words By Metro Officer
A punk thug tried to rob a liquor store tonight and he picked the wrong store as the clerk shot the thug. So, far the thug is still alive. But a Metro officer said this, which leaves me scratching my forever balding head: "A juvenile came into the store and attempted to conduct a robbery and he ended up being the victim, because the store clerk ended up shooting him," Metro Lt. I Suspect The Badgers Are Going To Work On Special Teams This Week
The Wisconsin Badgers played Arizona State this afternoon and they were lucky they were not blown away. The Sun Devils returned one kick off for a touchdown, had another one called back and the they had another 95 yard kick off return stopped at the 1 yard line on the last play of the half. In addition, the punt coverage pretty much sucked.
The Badgers won, 20-19 and won only because the Badgers blocked the PAT with about 2 minutes remaining.
Sometimes, it is better to be lucky than good and today the Badgers were lucky and certainly not good, especially the special teams.
I suspect the kickoff and punt teams are going to be working a lot this week and there will be new players on the special teams.
I hope the Badgers get it together soon because they are not looking very good this season against unranked teams.

More Information About CCSD Candidate Dr. James Browder
I was reading the Fort Myers News-Press and looking at the comments in the comment section, it seemed like they are hoping that we will hire Browder off their hands. Some things I have found out. Two Browder allies on the Lee school board were ousted in the last election and the election was much about Browder as anything else.

The Lee County Board eliminated the ethics clause in Browder's contract. Why? Will CCSD do the same? He also gets 2 years salary if he leaves Lee County for whatever reason and apparently he is double dipping his salary- taking retirement and salary at the same time.
We commend the board for recognizing Dr. Browder's worth. Still, four of its members have nevertheless gone far astray as they seem to think that loyalty is best displayed by blind allegiance.
A request to "retire," grab a $240,000 package from the state's controversial Deferred Retirement Option Program, and then come back 30 days later to his superintendent's post at full salary of $167,815 per year? No problem.
Elimination of an ethics clause in Dr. Browder's employment contract? No problem.

He also doesn't take criticism very well (from the same article): Free rein to indulge in snipe fests that take to task those among the public who dare to question district decisions? No problem.
The right to take on board members who dare to dissent against this bobblehead mentality? Apparently, no problem.
With the ink on his new go-ahead-and-fire-me contract still wet, Dr. Browder last week fired back at the one school board member who has had the gumption to ask some tough questions, precisely the role of an elected official.
When board member Bob Chilmonik asked the superintendent at a budget workshop meeting last Friday if he would be willing to reinstate the ethics clause of his contract, Dr. Browder's response was less than professional
"No," replied Dr. Browder. "I will tell you when I will put it back, when the governor replaces you on the board with an acceptable school board member."
Another issues is school busing- not racial, mind you, but just that kids were on buses for hours each day. Apparently, he doesn't like staggered start times for schools. Will he approve the way CCSD is doing things, like having staggered starting times: One of the cost-cutting recommendations, changing school start times to help end long school bus rides and save money. Something no one on this board agrees with.
Browder:"What I am not willing to do is have that destroy the system.
Rob: Why would it Dr. Browder?
Browder: Because you will have to change 70% of the school start times. You haven't been here that long, you were someplace else dealing with other issues, the deal is I know what school start times do".
Browder says the district would have to go to a three tier system.
Browder: "I would say start at 7:30, 9:00 and 10:30 -- are families willing to start that tier at 10:30 -- it expands childcare for folks".

We commend the board for recognizing Dr. Browder's worth. Still, four of its members have nevertheless gone far astray as they seem to think that loyalty is best displayed by blind allegiance.
A request to "retire," grab a $240,000 package from the state's controversial Deferred Retirement Option Program, and then come back 30 days later to his superintendent's post at full salary of $167,815 per year? No problem.
Elimination of an ethics clause in Dr. Browder's employment contract? No problem.

With the ink on his new go-ahead-and-fire-me contract still wet, Dr. Browder last week fired back at the one school board member who has had the gumption to ask some tough questions, precisely the role of an elected official.
When board member Bob Chilmonik asked the superintendent at a budget workshop meeting last Friday if he would be willing to reinstate the ethics clause of his contract, Dr. Browder's response was less than professional
"No," replied Dr. Browder. "I will tell you when I will put it back, when the governor replaces you on the board with an acceptable school board member."
Another issues is school busing- not racial, mind you, but just that kids were on buses for hours each day. Apparently, he doesn't like staggered start times for schools. Will he approve the way CCSD is doing things, like having staggered starting times: One of the cost-cutting recommendations, changing school start times to help end long school bus rides and save money. Something no one on this board agrees with.
Browder:"What I am not willing to do is have that destroy the system.
Rob: Why would it Dr. Browder?
Browder: Because you will have to change 70% of the school start times. You haven't been here that long, you were someplace else dealing with other issues, the deal is I know what school start times do".
Browder says the district would have to go to a three tier system.
Browder: "I would say start at 7:30, 9:00 and 10:30 -- are families willing to start that tier at 10:30 -- it expands childcare for folks".

Not all things are bad with Browder, mind you. He has support of the press in Lee county. He is a conservative educator for the most part. He favors a 200 day school year (yeah, that will go over well with students). He seems to be tough on bad teachers and he favors school choice within the school district.
So, far, Dr. Browder seems to be head and tails above the other candidates but that is not saying a lot. But questions need to be asked and answered.
This Is How Much The Community And Media Care About The CCSD Superintendent Search
CCSD, the 5th largest school district in the country is about to hire a new superintendent that will affect hundreds of thousands of students and tens of thousands of employees.
Since the announcement came out on Thursday, we have been treated with minimal news. The Las Vegas Sun ran about a 5 paragraph story and it had about 20 comments. The LVRJ cut and pasted information about the candidates from stories from areas where the candidates are from. KDWN ran with the story on their newscast on Thursday and Friday, about 30 seconds worth and it was the same story. Hell, I have far more information about the candidates than either the LVRJ and the Sun combined.
The CCEA, the teachers union, has noting on it's web site. Maybe it's not important to them?
Nothing was printed or posted on Saturday. There has been no editorials about the candidates. No in depth reporting about the candidates. No one has question how the school board got these names from the company that was charged with selecting the final 3 candidates.
For instance. no one has questioned why there is one white candidate, one black candidate and 1 Hispanic candidate in the finals. Did the school board order this? Is it a coincidence?
How did Dwight Jones get on the list? He oversees 300 only employees and has been a superintendent of a district of only 6500 students and has had a history of questionable personal spending. And this qualifies him to run the 5th largest school school district in the country?

He is doing such a great job that the Dallas school district is not renewing his contract when it expires. In addition, he comes from a mediocre, at best, school district that is below CCSD in standards. Further, he completely blew a budget a few years ago, which resulted in several hundred Dallas teachers being fired.
Jim Browder, from Lee County, seems to be the best candidate, but he is in a bidding war right now, as Lee County wants to keep him, Edison schools wants to hire him and CCSD would like to hire him. Are we going to get into a bidding war with those 2 other schools? I am also finding out more information that CCSD needs to know.
From my thinking, it seems like with the exception of a few people, this community lacks total apathy in regards to who the new superintendent will be, which is a shame.

Dog Park Etiquette?
As a dog owner, we like to take our dogs to area dog parks. we go to the Dog Fancier Park, which is at the end of E. Flamingo, The Park Park and Acia Park in Henderson. We go 3-6 times a week and so we have seen some things that shake my head, but an article in the Green Valley/Henderson View caught my eye:

Kathy Bethke has witnessed too many times when people come up to her 90-pound German shepherd, Mollie, to hug or pet her without asking permission.
"You never run up to a dog you don't know and pet them," Bethke said.
Bethke, who owns Kathy's K-9 Training, said people need to be trained on pet etiquette just as much as dogs need obedience training.
When she is with her dogs in the park, whether it is the newly opened Bark Park in Henderson or a dog park in Boulder City, she said unattended children often run up to her dogs.
"The other day, I had a child run from one side of the park over to me (by herself)," Bethke said. "I couldn't really say anything to the parents because they weren't with her."

The basic rule of thumb is, never approach a dog you don't know. I don't care if it is sitting under a sign that says, 'Bruno: The friendliest, happiest dog in the world.' Dogs are like people. They have personal space. They have good days and bad days. You do not enter their space without permission."
While this may be true at your home, it should not happen at any dog park you take your dog to. If you don't think your dog will behave or need it's personal space, the dog park is not for you.

How Terribly Sad
A high school football player in Texas died from an apparent seizure last night, Friday, just after throwing his second touchdown pass of the game.
From The Beaumont Enterprise: West Orange-Stark football player Reggie Garrett died Friday after he collapsed on the sideline during a high school football game at Dan R. Hooks Stadium.
Garrett appeared unresponsive as medics carted him off the field following his collapse midway through the second quarter. Medics loaded Garrett into an ambulance and the game continued to its conclusion, a 27-6 victory for WO-S against Jasper.
Garrett was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Baptist-Orange at 9:30 p.m. Friday night, according to hospital spokeswoman Mary Poole.
Garrett arrived at the emergency room at 8:30 p.m. Poole said an autopsy has been ordered and the death is being investigated.
WO-S coach Dan Hooks said Garrett appeared to experience a seizure. Hooks said Garrett’s mother said Garrett had suffered a seizure “maybe three years ago,” said Hooks, who credited Garrett as a much-improved team leader.
A 6-foot-2, 175-pound senior quarterback, Garrett had just thrown his second touchdown pass of the game and trotted to the sideline. He collapsed after an extra point gave WO-S a 21-0 lead.

Several thoughts came to mind when I read this. First, how sad it for the family, the players and coaches along with the people in the stands to witness such a tragedy.
Second, as a person who has witnessed a minimum of over 15,000 seizure in my lifetime due to my different jobs, I find it hard to believe that someone can die of a seizure, especially if they are treated right away, but it happens sometimes. I'd be willing to bet it was something other than a seizure that killed this young man.
Third, if this happened at a CCSD football gam can the same thing happen. It's possible. We don't have ambulances at the games, so if someone is hurt or has a seizure, they need to rely on trainers and coaches for first aid before an ambulance gets there. While they are trained in emergency first aid, the are not paramedics and cannot give medication to stop seizures. The schools do have an AED defibrillator in case there is cardiac arrest. If a person needs an ambulance, they have to wait for an ambulance for several minutes. I would suggest that high schools ask the area fire departments along with AMR/Medic West to have an ambulance stage at games, though the ambulance would be available for calls in their area. The cost of having an ambulance staged at a high school stadium, during the game would cost too much, so if the ambulances could be staged close to the stadiums, that may help during emergencies.
Third, look how fragile life is. You throw a touchdown pass and you are dead a few minutes later. I question the wisdom of continuing to play after the kid was taken to the hospital. The players probably had their minds on Reggie Garrett and they could have been seriously hurt because their thoughts were else where and not concentrating on the game.
Even though I am tempted to throw the remote while watching today's Badger game because of the Badger's poor play, this puts things in perspective. It's just a game and there is a family in Texas, mourning at the loss of their son who died while playing football.

Why Was The Father Charged And No One Else?
I Sanford Fl., a father who was upset that a bunch of bully thugs were picking on his 13 year old daughter who has cerebral palsy was arrested and charged for making threats to the punks on the bus who were harassing the child.

According to Jones and other students on the bus, the object was an unwrapped condom. The video shows a boy sitting behind James' daughter getting up from his seat and picking the condom up. The video then shows him move back to his seat carrying the condom and tossing it onto the girl's hair. As she struggled to pull it out, students aboard the bus erupt in laughter, the video shows.
Jones said the video explains why he reacted the way he did, threatening to kill students.
"I couldn't see myself letting my kids get disrespected in front of every other kid. That's what was going through my head," Jones said.

The Joneses said their daughter, who has cerebral palsy and is new to Greenwood Lakes Middle School in Lake Mary, has had trouble since the beginning of the year.

Obama Insider: Obama Not Focused
An interesting story concerning President Obama from Newsflavor: When I asked this insider if the media gave candidate Obama an assist throughout his campaign, it elicits a sly smile. Sure – we definitely had people in the media on our side. Absolutely. We went so far as to give them specific ideas for coverage. The ones who took that advice from the campaign were granted better access, and Obama was the biggest story in 2008, so yeah, that gave us a lot of leverage...
But after Obama was sworn in, things began to change? Almost immediately. Obama loved to campaign. He clearly didn’t like the work of being President though, and that attitude was felt by the entire White House staff within weeks after the inauguration. Obama the tireless, hard working candidate became a very tepid personality to us. And the few news stories that did come out against him were the only things he seemed to care about. He absolutely obsesses over Fox News. For being so successful, Barack Obama is incredibly thin-skinned. He takes everything very personally...
What about Hillary Clinton? Obama is scared to death of Hillary. He doesn’t trust her – obsesses over her almost as much as he does Fox News. He respects her though, which might be why he fears her so much as well. He talks the game, but when it comes down to it, she has played the game on a far tougher level than he has, and Obama knows that...

Bill Clinton is a smart guy – he would run intellectual circles around Barack Obama. And Bill Clinton loved the politics of being president. But would another four years of an Obama presidency be the best thing for America? Come To Vegas On Vacation, Leave On Probation: Paris Hilton addition
Paris Hilton was busted last month for having cocaine in which she denied it was hers. Of course she claimed the cash.
Well, she will plead guilty and get 1 year of probation. If she violates probation, she will go to jail for 1 year.
This is about average for Clark County for first time offenders, even though you can make the argument that Hilton is offensive, but that's another story.
I wonder if the sports books will put out a prop be to see if Hilton makes it one year without breaking her probation. I'd say the odds are 2-1 in favor of breaking probation.

$111 Million=55 Jobs: How Is That Stimulus Working, Harry And Dina?

The Los Angeles City Controller said on Thursday the city's use of its share of the $800 billion federal stimulus fund has been disappointing.
The city received $111 million in stimulus under American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) approved by the Congress more than year ago.
"I'm disappointed that we've only created or retained 55 jobs after receiving $111 million," says Wendy Greuel, the city's controller, while releasing an audit report.
"With our local unemployment rate over 12% we need to do a better job cutting red tape and putting Angelenos back to work,” she added.
According to the report, the Los Angeles Department of Public Works generated only 45.46 jobs (the fraction of a job created or retained correlates to the number of actual hours works) after receiving $70.65 million, while the target was 238 jobs.
Similarly, the city’s department of transportation, armed with a $40.8 million fund, created only 9 jobs in place of an expected 26 jobs.
The audit says the numbers were disappointing due to bureaucratic red tape, absence of competitive bidding for projects in private sectors, inappropriate tracking of stimulus money and a laxity in bringing out timely job reports.

The Good, The Bad And the Ugly: CCSD Superintendent Summary
So, CCSD has three candidates for superintendent and it can be best summed up by the Good, The Bad and the Ugly.
The good would be Dr. Jim Browder. From the reports I have seen, Browder has done a good job in Lee County- no scandals- and a back to basic kind of guy. While his district is not very large, they don't have a lot of problems. The worst seems to be a transportation issue which seems like they are fixing.
The bad would be Dallas superintendent, Michael Hinojosa. His worst moment was when his administration totally screwed up a budget in 2008 and thousands of teachers were laid off, several of which were employed by CCSD. Looking at the comments in the local newspapers, many people are happy to see him go if he gets the job.
Hinosoja seems to have improved academics in the district and has implemented a district wide school uniform policy. That will certainly tick off the students but I think will help CCSD, overall, if implemented.
The ugly would be Mr. Dwight Jones. He runs the Colorado Education department, with only 300 employees. He was superintendent in Fountain-Fort Carson which has about 6500 students. He has been involved a scandal of reimbursement of expenses, which he seems to be have fixed. While he has been a teacher and administrator, he just doesn't have the experience of running a very large school district as the other two candidates. If Jones is the third best candidate, then CCSD did not attract a lot of quality candidates or it is possible, Jones is a finalist because he is black. This is not to say he is not a quality candidate for a smalled school district, but is he a quality top 3 candidate for CCSD?
So, here are the top three candidates. My money will be on Dr. Browder followed by Dr. Hinojosa. If Jones gets the job, then the fix is in.

Apparently, he did not seek the CCSD job: More information: Board president Adam Medrano said Hinojosa told him that he's being considered for the Las Vegas job. Medrano said Hinojosa did not seek out the post but was recruited. "He's not out there applying for another job," he said. "I know that he wants to be here." Medrano said he has no idea what the board's reaction will be if Hinojosa is named as a finalist because it hasn't been talked about. Several years ago when then-DISD superintendent Mike Moses was being talked about as a possible candidate for a position at a university, trustees called an emergency meeting and increased his salary. "We'll see what happens tomorrow," Medrano said.
Trustee Lew Blackburn, the board's first vice president, said as far as he's concerned, the board would wait to see if Hinojosa is offered the Las Vegas job before making a decision on what to do. "Board members have not talked about any kind of meeting to keep him or raise his pay," Blackburn said.

He's revamped curriculum, boosted test scores, groomed new principals for tough schools and helped convince voters to approve a $1.35 billion bond program for new buildings and long-ignored repairs.
But a budget crisis that rocked the district in 2008 and sparked massive teacher layoffs has been Hinojosa's Achilles' heel – what one observer calls a "career-damaging event."
"That was my biggest disappointment," Hinojosa, 53, said of an estimated $64 million budget shortfall. "Obviously the biggest area of where my administration did not succeed."
After five years, statistics show the bottom line:
•DISD's student performance is clearly improving, though scores still rank near the bottom of the state's large urban districts. In 2005, 49 percent of the district's students were passing all of their state exams, a figure that has risen to 64 percent.
•The district's top magnet schools continue to be considered among the best high schools in the nation, while 10 comprehensive high schools are in such dire academic shape that some face closure by the state.
•DISD continues to struggle with a dismal graduation rate of 65 percent.
•The district has improved its financial systems, but its reserve fund remains dangerously low. A strong-willed school board often divided by race has also proven a challenge for Hinojosa, who is not known for politicking, schmoozing or coalescing opposing factions.

• Dwight D. Jones, the Colorado commissioner of education. The firm described him as "very achievement and assessment literate and motivated."
• Michael Hinojosa, a school superintendent for 14 years and superintendent in Dallas for the past five years. The firm said Dallas resembles Clark County with diverse ethnic groups and a sizable low-income population. "He has zeroed in on student success" and "he is known for team building," the firm said.

Meanwhile In Mexico: They Celebrate 200 Years With Murder
Today is Mexico's 200 anniversary of independence. Happy Birthday.
So, how do they celebrate the 200th anniversary in Juarez, the murder capitol of the world? Why, of course, by committing multiple murders, including those in law enforcement.
Maybe, in the next 200 years, Mexico will become independent of the drug gangs that have destroyed the country.
Surprisingly, there was very little celebration in Las Vegas and at the school I teach at, which is about 75% Hispanic.

From The Washington Examiner: With this news I think we can say that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, is officially politically toxic. Heritage Action for America just sent out the following press release:
Today, Mississippi Democrat Gene Taylor became the first Democrat to sign Discharge Petition #11, which would force a vote on repealing the unpopular law. Representative Taylor’s decision marks a new phase in the campaign to repeal Obamacare, which Heritage Action for America launched in June.
“We are pleased to see Representative Gene Taylor choosing principle over party,” Heritage Action CEO Michael A. This is good news. What is even better news is that Dean Heller signed the petition on July 28th. I don't there was much, if any news about this.
Currently, there are 172 House of Representatives members that have signed the discharge petition.

Sol Bio is a green energy in Boulder City, NV. Well, it is name only and maybe a web site. Well, they have about 2,200 acres in Boulder City and they owe about $3 million in lease payments to the City of Boulder City. Well, that's a huge chunk out of their $22.7 million budget.
From the Las Vegas Sun: Boulder City is still waiting for a $3 million lease payment, more than six months late, from a renewable energy firm that planned to build a solar panel plant in the Eldorado Valley.
City Manager Vicki Mayes had added an item to the agenda for Tuesday’s city council meeting to discuss a guarantee by Advanced Energy Innovations, Inc., to take over the lease from SolBio Energy for the 2,200-acre piece of land and pay the balance. But she withdrew it at the meeting’s outset.
The unpaid bill has left a $3 million hole in Boulder City’s $22.7 million budget for the 2011 fiscal year, which began in July. The $2 billion project was approved in December 2009, and SolBio planned to break ground in early 2010.
Mayes announced three phases of freezes and cuts at the city council’s Aug. 24 meeting to address the gap if the revenue doesn’t come. She confirmed Tuesday that the city had implemented the first phase on Sept. 1: a freeze on capital spending and a freeze on hiring vacant positions, such as an empty police sergeant slot.

I am very skeptical of green energy. The Fed's offer these huge grants, tax write offs and other free money and land and then the companies produce what? Nothing or very little.
But this is what the liberals want- green energy, even though the technology is not there. The liberals just want to ram green energy down our throats without any consequences and with no regards to taxpayers.
So, Boulder City is being screwed over by a green energy company. This is not the first time a green energy company has screwed over a community and it certainly will not be the last.
