Review: Defending The Caveman

The lovely Cathy and myself went to "Defending the Caveman" show featuring Kevin Burke at the Excalibur Casino and Hotel on Monday. There were about 125 people in attendance.

Defending the Caveman is a single actor show. Kevin Burke is the star in the Las Vegas show and there are several different actors throughout the country. To find that out was kind of disappointing.

The show was funny, no doubt about it. It points out the differences between males and females in a humorous way. Many times during the show, all I could say say is 'yep, that's me."

However, there were problems with the show. The most irritating was there was a split second between Burke's lip movements and the sound. You would see him finish talking but the sound kept on going for a fraction of a second. That to me is irritating, though I am not sure there is anything they can do about that.

There was also gratuitous swearing in the show. The ticket says the show is for 13 years old and up and I would say no, 18 and up. And finally, Burke did not show all that much emotion during the performance. He memorized the script and repeated it. While he did show some emotion at times, other times, it looked like he was going through the motions. After the show, he met the audience but was not as personable as other performers we have seen.

The show lasted exactly 1 hour. For more information about the Las Vegas show: http://www.excalibur.com/entertainment/defending_the_caveman.aspx

One final note, on the sign on the Excalibur, it says it has a dinner and show option, but we didn't see that and the web site shows that it is not offered.
