NASCAR Races Looks Like A Fast Merry-Go-Round |
NASCAR came out with a new car, the Gen 6 car, which is supposed to look like the cars in the showroom.
Instead, what we have is an Edsel.
I was at the race today and it was about the most boring race you could have.
Except for the start and the restarts, there was little passing especially in the front of the pack. This was clearly shown when Kasey Kahne, who probably had the better car, could not pass Matt Kenseth, who won the race. Now mind you, Matt Kenseth is my favorite NASCAR driver and I am glad he won. But Kahne never was able to get that close to Kenseth in the final 20 laps, even though he had the better car all day.
In fact, there was little passing all day, except when cars were being lapped and by the back benchers- they sometimes put on a good show. It was like watching a fast merry-go-round. But up front, it was so boring. How boring was it? That during the race was green, there thousands of people either leaving early or hanging out on the concourse, getting food, smoking or walking around. By the end of the race, thousands of fans were gone.
On Saturday, the same thing happened. There was a little more passing but not by much. For a Nationwide race.
About 200,000 people came out for both races and they were treated to two boring races.
If this is the best NASCAR has to offer, NASCAR is doomed.
