NASCAR Las Vegas Weekend: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
Today finished up the it's annual weekend in Las Vegas today.
Through a bunch of bed rest and pain pills, I was able to go to the race today and here are some of my observations:
Good: So many jobs were created for this weekend by the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. From security, to golf cart and tram drivers, food servers, paramedics and firefighters, custodians, rest room attendants, parking checkers, track officials, big rig drivers, announcers, scorers, souvenir sellers ticket takers and so many more jobs were created. I would say a minimum of 2000 jobs were created for the weekend.
Good: The Nevada Highway Patrol did a great job getting drivers into and out of the Speedway by directing traffic.
Ugly: Las Vegas Metro Police: They sat on their ass all day long. They just mingled amongst themselves in the shade and away from the crowds while at the Speedway and they did nothing to help traffic. They just sat/stood at a few intersections and talked amongst themselves. A total waste of Speedway and taxpayer money.
Good: Most of the employees were very good and the place track was kept clean.
Bad: The escalator down to the Neon Garage was broke, so people had to walk down a long and steep stairway.
Ugly: A thief that stole some bags out of the back of a pick up truck and then ran when a traffic guy and myself went after him.
Ugly: Metro again for providing no security patrols in the parking lots.
Good: The last lap of the race, which was the most exciting part of the race.
Bad: The rest of the race- with little passing.
Ugly: NASCAR for rigging the race against Paul Menard towards the end of the race. See the above post.
Bad: The sound system at the track. Other than yellow flags, you could not hear them.
Ugly: Robin Leach... again. Still cannot pronounce some names and cities.
Good: The National Anthem sung by the Million Dollar Quartet.
Good: The Thunderbirds
Good: The Neon Garage: Even though most of the cars were already loaded onto the haulers, you still could see some cars and I was able to snag an autograph and some freebie souvenirs.
Good: Brad Keselowski and his crew chief, Paul Wolfe for giving out autographs after the race in the Neon Garage. The only driver and crew chief to do so.
So, all in all, it was a very fun day and look forward to doing it all again next year.
