At Least 20 School Districts Closed In Wisconsin On Friday

Striking Wisconsin School Teachers Give The Finger To Wisconsin Taxpayers

At least 16 school districts will close on Friday, giving the illegal strikers a 3 or 4 day weekend, depending if they take Monday off for President's Day. In the Madison area:
For the Wausau area:
So, the striking teachers continue to make asses of themselves and set poor examples to the students they supposedly teach. Meanwhile, more parents have to pay for daycare when they didn't have to, students of junior high and high school age roam the cities of the schools that canceled school. And the public is even more outraged at the striking teachers and now, Democrats.

  1. Sound like an uneducated response to what is going on in our state. These teachers want to be in the classroom, they want nothing but the best for your children, but without collective bargaining- not just the public employees but the your children will be affected. There is something to say about the domino theory- and it does happen. They are not bein selfish, the are being proactive and surprisingly there are huge numbers of students there in support of their teachers and other family members that are public employees. Search your work, your neighborhood, your own family, do some comparison, read what most of the bill is about, blog, but understand... then maybe you wouldn't be thinking it is only for a four day weekend. Parents can handle this if they support their child's education, and I am sure the environment they grow up in at home will decide whether they are roaming the cities, schools shouldn't be the only place your children are learning.
With all respect- it isn't just educators down there.. and if you knew the importance of unions in the public sector you would also know that private and public are not alike and unions would not in most situations have much of a role in private enterprise because of such a competitive market.
Understand most agree with parts of the bill and are not saying they will not contribute toward the budget, but elimination of our unions is something we can't afford.

  2. To anon, I used to be a teacher in Wisconsin and was educated (minimally) by the U.W. system. So, please don't tell me I don't understand. this is about the selifishness of the teracher, but more importantly, the union.
If you break it down, the teacher is not affected by most of it. CPI gives the raise? We are going throough some big inflation now, you are going to get some hefty raises. Work place rules? Most, 99% are not affected by the rules bcause they are good employees who don't get into trouble.
However, they the union is scared crapless because the union would have to be voted in every year. That is what is driving the unions crazy becaue there will no more of the union.
So, please spare me that this strike is for the children- it's not. It's for the union and union greed.

  3. While it's commendable that you are concerned for parents who have to pay for daycare (particularly low-income parents), you may be relieved to know that Dane County's YMCAs are offering free emergency childcare this week, even to non-members.
