Going To The NASCAR Race This Weekend, Here Some Tips

If you are going to the NASCAR race in Las Vegas this weekend, here are some tips:
1.  Leave early, very early.  The race starts noon on Sunday, to avoid the traffic jams that come with 120,000 people coming to the race. Getting to the speedway by 10:00 isn't that bad.
2.  Plan on leaving late:  With 120,000 leaving at the same time, plan on staying at the track for at least an hour after the race.  While the NHP does a good job with the traffic at the track, the Metro police sit on their asses, chat and do nothing to help with the traffic flow, so plan on traffic jams.
3.  After the race, you can go to the Neon Garage and they hold races after the big race track with some mini race cars.
4.  Tailgate.  The food and drinks at the track is very expensive, so tailgate before and after the race.
5.  Bring sunscreen.  It's going to be 71 for a high temperature but sunny and it is an intense sun and the stands don't get shade until the race is over.
6.  Don't plan on seeing any drivers up close and personal after the race.  The drivers don't go to the Neon garage after the race.  You will be able to see the cars as they go through inspections and get loaded onto their haulers.
7.  If you want to see drivers, you need to go on the Thursday before the race.  You can see the drivers in the garage and get autographs as well.  Drivers like Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch, David Ragan and Brian Vickers were giving out autographs to fans.
8.  The pre-race show is pretty good, usually a Strip singer sings the National Anthem and the Thunderbirds will also perform.  Hopefully they will not have any showgirls as that is Old Vegas, not new Vegas and hopefully no celebrities who want to be seen, like a Kardashian or Paris Hilton as in the past.
9.  If Robin Leach announces the racers, be prepared to be amused when he screws up the names of the drivers.
10.  It's going to be loud.  Very loud.  So loud you can't hear the person next to you.  And don't bring babies to the race, like some people do.
So, if you are going, have fun and take your time.
