Eunice Kennedy Schriver, one of the good Kennedy's, died today after a long time illness. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/11/AR2009081100689.html?wprss=rss_nation
Schriver helped found Special Olympics, one of the biggest positive movements for the mentally disabled. Her work with the disabled allowed them to literally come out of the closet and into the community. In 1968, she organized the first Special Olympics competition in Chicago. In 1968, many people who were diagnosed with mental disabilities were either institutionalized or placed in special schools. Special Olympics brought those people with disabilities into the community.
So, RIP, Eunice Kennedy Schriver. Unlike most of the Kennedy's, you did a good job and had a huge positive impact in this country.
