More stupid Las Vegas Jury News

Las Vegas has had some stupid jury awards. (like when a jury or mental midgets ordered a drug company to pay $500,000,000 to a CCSD principal in the Hepatitis C disaster when the drug company had nothing to do with the disaster) Maybe because Clark County has one of the worst drop rates in the country or because there are more liberals in Clark County than anywhere else in the State, we get some strange awards. Today comes another one.
From the LVRJ: A federal jury awarded about $2.1 million in damages Thursday to a Las Vegas man who claimed three police officers subjected him to excessive force in 2001.
Charles Barnard filed the civil rights lawsuit in 2003 against the Metropolitan Police Department and officers Greg Theobald, Steven Radmanovich and Gary Clark. The department later was dismissed from the case.
The officers came to Barnard's Henderson apartment on Dec. 8, 2001, in search of his brother.
Attorney Paola Armeni claimed Barnard opened the door and came out with his hands raised, but Theobald tripped while trying to handcuff him. During the chaos that ensued, officers pepper sprayed Barnard, placed him in a choke hold and held him down on the ground with a knee to his neck.

It is a possibility that these officers were operating on their own outside their jurisdiction. They were in Henderson and Metro doesn't technicality have jurisdiction in Henderson, though any police officer can make arrests in another police district because cops legally have jurisdiction throughout the State.
However, to award $2,100,000 for a back injury is just stupid. I have had back injuries and have had surgeries on my back and in no way is it worth me being a millionaire 2.1 times over.
So, once again, Las Vegas makes a fool of it's self and show why we have so many ambulance chaser lawyers in the Valley.
