3rd Murder On Strip In Two Weeks

From the Las Vegas Sun: Metro Police said a Florida man allegedly killed a tourist from Utah during a fight early this morning at O'Sheas on the Las Vegas Strip.
Police responded at 12:46 a.m. to reports of a person unconscious and not breathing on the casino floor at O'Sheas, 3555 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
The victim was taken to Desert Springs Hospital, where he later died, police said.
Officers arrested 37-year-old Benjamin Gerard Hawkins, of Gainesville, Fla., in connection with the man's death.
Hawkins and the victim allegedly began arguing in a casino restroom -- an argument that continued as they left, police said. Hawkins then allegedly struck the victim in the face, killing him, authorities said.
It's unclear what sparked the altercation between the two men, who were both tourists and didn't know each other.

This is the third murder on the Las Vegas Strip in the last to weeks and I am sure the casinos and the police are scared to hell right now.
Crime happens on the Strip, but until recently, murders were not. To have 3 in less than 2 weeks will have an impact on visitors of the Strip.
To be safe, travel in groups and stay from groups that look like they want to start trouble. I have been on the Strip numerous times and never had a problem. Of course, being the old goat I am, I usually leave the Strip by 11:00 at night.
I don't know what the cops and hotel security can do, short saturating the strip with cops, which will be expensive and it won't make being on the Strip as fun.
So, please keep coming to Las Vegas, crime happens but 99.99% of the tourists have a great time and are safe.

  1. I am staying at a very exclusive high security hotel in city center that doesnt have a casino and u MUST have a key to operate the elevator. Incredible staff that i have seen block unwanted guests that were trying to lie to get in. I feel safe here but only here. Whenever I leave their guarded front doors I feel unsafe. I have seen incredibly crazy things happen on the strip for the past 2 weeks even with my boyfriend by my side. We are low key, don't dress provocatively on purpose yet still have been followed by strange groups of men making comments such as "your wife is beautiful so if your not doing her i will." makes us feel like virtual prisoners inside this glorious serene calm hotel. We would still like to enjoy the rest of las Vegas but have been inside the spa most afternoons and the quiet pool in order to avoid any troubles. Vegas has changed.....I disagree with the people saying they feel safe anytime anywhere on the strip. We have seen fights break out, police cars everywhere and gangbangers in large quantities drunk, throwing bottles thus glass everywhere and so many other things that I have never seen in Vegas on such a wide scale. I know for a fact that things are not being reported in the newspapers as I was a witness to an incident where three bottles of beer were thrown at random walkers on the strip, glass breaking everywhere, people being hit with shards of glass yet the police never appeared and the partiers laughing and disappearing within the huge crowds. Shocking. I love this hotel and the employees in it who have made my trip here very memorable but I am scared to walk outside these doors. I can not believe that a murder occurred on July 4th in a spot we walked by just hours before. Reality check.
