Today is Oscar Goodman's last day in office as mayor of the City of Las Vegas. He the swore in his wife as the next mayor of Las Vegas.
Oscar was the City's head cheerleader, much like Tommy Thompson was for Wisconsin. Oscar attended so many events to promote Las Vegas, that I doubt anyone knows how many events he went to.
Most of the time, he went with Vegas Showgirls in one arm and a martini in the other hand. However, not all the time.
I remember that I was taking our students in my Special Education class to a district wide track meet. Even though the meet was in unincorporated Clark County, Oscar showed up and shook hands with all the disabled kids he had time to meet with. Most of the kids probably didn't even know who he was and they were not voters or donated money to his campaign but Oscar had a ball with the kids and treated them just like everyone else he came in contact with. To me, that is what Oscar Goodman was all about- a good man who truly cared the people in the Valley.
So, thank you Oscar Goodman for your time serving Las Vegas. Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Valley is a much better place because of you.
Now, time for an encore as Carolyn Goodman takes over as mayor of Las Vegas. Good luck Mrs. Goodman.
