This Elfman story Is Really Hard To Believe

Doug Elfman of the LVRJ ran a story in today's paper that to me, at least, is really hard to believe.
From the LVRJ and Doug Elfman: KNPR's Flo Rogers was just chilling on vacation in London on Friday when she suddenly became a spectator to the greatest journalism scandal of the century, starring Rupert Murdoch.
Rogers, general manager of KNPR-FM, 88.9, was staying at the One Aldwych Hotel, which is near galleries and friends in her native England.
Meanwhile, Murdoch was walking into the hotel to apologize to the family of a slain girl, because reporters at his tabloid News of the World had hacked that family's mobile phones to retrieve voice mails -- then erased them.
It was a Friday of disgrace for Murdoch. He had shut the tabloid. His right-hand people resigned; one was later arrested. The head of Scotland Yard later resigned, because police botched the scandal for years while allegedly financially in bed with Murdoch's tabloid.
Murdoch's reporters had hacked phones of celebrities, politicians and crime victims. The FBI is investigating a report they hacked phones of 9/11 families. And on Monday, the ex-Murdoch reporter who blew the whistle on phone-hacking was found dead.
Anyway, at the hotel bar, "I was having a cocktail in the afternoon -- as one might do on vacation -- and I went up in the elevator, and Rupert Murdoch was in the elevator with me."
Murdoch, 80, was on his way to apologize to the phone hacked family of young murder victim Milly Dowler.
"He looked all of his years," Rogers says. "He looked like an old man ... expressionless."
Rogers mouthed to one of Murdoch's two security guards, "Is that him?" They ignored her. Murdoch exited to his floor. Rogers exited to hers. But she returned to the front of the hotel.
She faced a phalanx of TV and print reporters waiting outside.
So there she was on vacation from journalism, witnessing a scandal compared to Watergate.
More remarkably, she observed Murdoch -- owner of Fox News and the Wall Street Journal -- during maybe his only public moment of contrition, ever.
And there she stood with the pack, glimpsing the comings and goings of the stone-faced family of little Milly: "I don't think they took any comfort from the apology he made."
Murdoch tried to leave later, but he couldn't get to his car. A mob of people chanted at him, "Shame on you!" So he ducked back into the hotel.
Still in shock, Rogers went to the hotel gym to ride a stationary bike, but gym TVs were splashed with news images from her hotel.
The rest of her weekend wasn't as surreal. She checked out Olympic stadiums under construction; BBC Promenade concerts at Royal Albert Hall; and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club.
Now she can get back to KNPR-FM , which aired coverage of this hotel brouhaha via the BBC. It's fundraising time (KNPR.org or 258-0505).
"We're at the end of our fabulous Zappos promotion!" Rogers says.

So, in a nutshell, Elfman and Rogers expect us to believe that a total stranger would get into the same hotel elevator as Rupert Murdoch just as he was about to apologize to a family for the scandal involving the phone hacking scandal in London and England. That Rogers would get past all the police and security and rode up in an elevator car with one of the most hated men in London?

So, why do I doubt this story?
First, Rupert Murdoch has been in the news in a very tension story in London. I am sure there have threats made to him that will do him harm or worse. Even by Roger's observation, there were people hostile to Murdoch.
And they let a total stranger onto the elevator with Murdoch?
Do you realize what a huge security breach that would have been by both the police and his security. They didn't know who Rogers was. She could have been an attacker or a journalist trying to get a story from Murdoch or someone who wanted to harass him. Just today, someone tried to attack Murdoch with a shaving cream pie.
Further, since there were hundreds of press and spectators around the hotel, I would have thought that Murdoch not only went up with his security but also with a police escort as well.
So, to let a total stranger on the elevator with Murdoch would have put Murdoch in grave danger and I don't believe the police department is that bad in London and I am quite sure Murdoch doesn't that bad of security. Scotland Yard and there security details are one of the world's best.
Second, when celebrities go up in an elevator in a hotel and there are hundreds of press and spectators watching him not to mention shouting at him, they are not going to put him in a regular elevator where a lot of people can stare at him. They would take him up on a freight elevator and they would not stop at any floor to pick up another passenger. the hotel would also do this to prevent disruptions in their hotel.

So, unless the London Police and and Murdoch's security are some of most incompetent security personnel on the face of the earth, I don't buy Roger's and Elfman's story. I call BS on Rogers being on the same elevator as Rupert Murdoch, currently one of the most hated men in London. It just does not make sense.
