The Intercollegiate Studies Institute has a civic literacy exam for all to take:
•Full Civic Literacy Exam (from our 2008 survey)
Are you more knowledgeable than the average citizen? The average score for all 2,508 Americans taking the following test was 49%; college educators scored 55%. Can you do better? Questions were drawn from past ISI surveys, as well as other nationally recognized exams.

When you take the exam, you will see how ignorant elected officials are. I suspect that an idiot like Clark County Judge Nancy Allf will score about a 10% on the test.
To take the test, click on the link above and tell us how you did. I got 30 out of 33.

I got 31. A few of the questions require a fairly high reading comprehension level and proficiency in English. A lot of college educators are foreign-born, and I can see where they might misunderstand the meaning of some of the questions that use words that are not in common English usage.
ReplyDeleteBetter than I did. You are right that you have really have to read the questions carefully. I would say this quiz is probably about a 11th grade to freshmen in college level.
