From the Pahrump Valley Times: A report of video equipment found under a mobile home led police to seize a huge collection of suspected child pornography on Monday.
Detectives also arrested a 31-year-old registered sex offender after he allegedly set up video-recording equipment under the master bathroom area of a Pahrump mobile home.
A 14-year-old girl was using the bathroom when she told an adult in the home that she saw someone’s fingers through a hole in the floor. The adult, a 38-year-old woman, called police.
The discovery led police to James Wesley Adams and his collection of 144 VHS videotapes as well as still photos of young, underage females in various stages of undress, according to a police press release made public late Tuesday.
The videotapes were made allegedly using tapes of Hollywood movies with their security features disabled, allowing the suspect to tape over the movie and yet retain the tape’s authentic look, according to police.
Adams is charged with peeping, peering or spying with a recording device as well as multiple counts of child pornography. Police say further charges are possible.
Adams is being held in lieu of $60,000 bail. Police say Adams was a compliant, convicted sex offender, but a cursory check of local sex offender records didn’t reveal Adams’ conviction.
