From the LVRJ: Scientists at the Nevada National Security Site successfully detonated a plutonium experiment this week in a deep chamber 85 miles northwest of Las Vegas to check the safety and effectiveness of the nation's nuclear weapons, National Nuclear Security Administration officials said Friday.
The so-called subcritical experiment dubbed Pollux involved a tiny sample of plutonium bomb material and was conducted Wednesday by scientists from the security site, the Los Alamos, N.M., national laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories.
It was the 27th U.S. subcritical experiment since full-scale nuclear weapons tests were put on hold indefinitely in 1992, and the first since last year.
The previous experiment, Barolo B, was conducted on Feb. 2, 2011.
Don Cook, defense programs chief for NNSA, the semi-autonomous agency that runs the former Nevada Test Site, said new diagnostic equipment used in Pollux enabled scientists to collect more data in this single experiment than the preceding 26 experiments combined. http://www.lvrj.com/news/scientists-detonate-plutonium-experiment-182546631.html
So, if they are exploding plutonium near Yucca Mountain, there is absoutely no excuse not re-open Yucca Mountain. If they can explode plutonium and not cause any problems, there is no logical reason not to re-open up Yucca Mountain for nuclear waste storage.
Now, there is no logical reason to open up Yucca. Anyone who objects to re-opening Yucca is either a person a few bricks short of a load or just plain stupid. in President Obama's case or senile, as in Coward/Senile Harry Reid.
It's time to open up Yucxca Mountain.
