More Sad News

A police officer from my hometown in Wisconsin, Wauwatosa, was shot and killed today.
From jsonline: A 30-year-old Wauwatosa police officer was killed by multiple gunshots while on duty early Monday, police Lt. Gerald Witkowski said at a noon news conference.
Witkowski said that a homicide investigation is under way and there "are no suspects at this time."
The murdered officer, Jennifer Lynn Sebena, entered the Milwaukee Area Technical College police academy and joined the force in January 2011. She began as a solo patrol officer with Wauwatosa police in July 2012 and completed probation with the department in November, Witkowski said.
Witkowski said Sebena was married. He did not know whether the couple has children.
"Sometime this morning, between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. one of our Wauwatosa police officers was shot numerous times in the village of Wauwatosa," Witkowski said. "That officer succumbed to those gunshot wounds and has passed away."
Witkowsi said Sebena was believed to be wearing her safety vest at the time she was shot. http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/onduty-wauwatosa-police-officer-found-dead-ub857ol-184678571.html
Wauwatosa used to be a very quiet and safe suburb but the last few years, crime from Milwaukee has crossed the border and made Wauwatosa a little less safe.
And then there is this story from the Houston Chronicle:
A Bellaire police officer and an innocent bystander were killed and the gunman was left critically wounded after a shooting Monday morning in southwest Houston.
The shooting occurred about 8:50 a.m. outside a Maaco auto body shop at 5625 Bellaire near Alder, said John Cannon, a spokesman for the Houston Police department.
Cannon said the officer, identified as 53-year-old Cpl. Jimmie Norman, stopped the driver of a black Honda for a traffic violation on Jessamine near Maple Ridge. The driver initially pulled over, but then sped away. The officer chased him.
During the chase, the suspect clipped a white Ford F-150 pickup. The truck driver then followed the Honda, which pulled into the driveway of the auto body shop. The officer arrived seconds later.
Norman, a 24-year veteran, approached the Honda and a confrontation erupted between him and the driver. Within moments, the suspect pulled out a handgun and opened fire, wounding the officer, Cannon said.
"He didn't get an opportunity to draw his weapon and defend himself,' Cannon added.  http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Bellaire-police-officer-bystander-killed-in-4143392.php
It's been a very sad Christmas Eve around the country.
