So, What Are Food Stamps Buying Nowdays?

EBT Card
Having worked at a local grocery store for the past 4 months, I have found out that taxpayers Nevada and the U.S. are paying for the following items:
Red Bull
Microwave burritos
Steak
Lobster
Shrimp
Candy
Monster Energy Drinks
Microwave meals
Soda
Kool Aid
Deli Chicken
Deli Chicken Wings
Deli General Tso Chicken
Deli Orange Chicken
Amp Energy Drinks
Lamb Chops
Coffee
Keurig Coffee and other gourmet coffee
Tea
Pizza, no matter the cost
Deli Cheese and Meats
Gourmet Cheese
Frozen Gourmet Desserts like expensive pies, éclairs, cream puffs, cheese cake

(about the only things it doesn't buy are cleaning supplies, pet food, over the counter medicine, toiletries, paper products, booze and cigarettes)

What you don't see people eating and buying on food stamps are:
Fresh fruit
Fresh vegetables
Fruit Juice
Bottled Water
Frozen vegetables
Eggs
Cheaper generic foods

If Michele Obama can force school children eat healthy, why can she take on people who live on Food Stamps and have them eat better?
If WIC (Women Infant Children) can tell the participants what they can and cannot buy, why cannot we do the same for those on Food Stamps?
People have to eat, and there are many who do need food stamps.
But it is also frustrating to see people come in and buy a 12 pack of Red Bull with taxpayer money.
It's also frustrating to see people buy their steak, chicken, fish with taxpayer money and then whip out a hundred dollar bill and buy Jack Daniels or a case of Miller Genuine Draft.
Of course, not everybody does it, but the vast majority of people on food stamps are not good stewards of the  money they are given by they U.S. and state taxpayer.
The one good thing this has done, it has shown the younger workers who previously were liberal are now turning conservative.

  1. I get food stamps. I use them to supplement my grocery budget and help feed my daughter while I recover from a serious illness. One might purchase those things using food stamps because they are mostly ready-made food items which go a lot farther for the price than produce would and which have a longer shelf life; and though I, personally, do use food stamps to purchase healthy foods, I can understand why individuals who don't know how to cook from scratch do not. Also, it's a waste of time and concern to care whether people on food stamps use them to buy lobster. You only get your allotted monthly amount, no matter what you buy -- if someone wants to squander theirs on lobster and starve for the last half of the month it's no more skin off your back than if that same person ate bulk fish sticks instead.

  2. Your point is taken but you forget they are not your food stamps, the food stamps belong to the government/taxpayers.
The taxpayers should expect that the people who get food stamps should use them in a manner that use the food stamps that save them money and the government/taxpayer money.
I do hope you feel better and get off the food stamp program.
