Some Newtown Parents Seeking Their 15 Minues Of Fame?

I realize I will be thought of as a jerk, an as**hole, un caring, but it has to be said.
It seems that there are some Newtown, CT. who are seeking their 15 minutes of fame off the backs of their dead children.
They are being treated like royalty by President Obama, including flying on Air Force 1, treated at the White House, taking over Obama's radio spot, being the toast of local and national media etc.
No other family members of crime, especially murder, have gotten treatment even close to what the Newtown families have gotten.
Now, not all the families have gone out of their way to hang around the president and would rather sy what they want to say out of the spotlight.
The families deserve our respect for what has happened to them but some families seem to be enjoying the attention, which is kind of sad and freaky.

  1. These parents banded together, and decided to turn their tragedy into a cause. Some of them, probably, do have some enjoyment for the attention they're getting. But I doubt one of them would trade fame for their kid if they had the choice.

After 9/11, there were some people tried to turn their tragedy into action too. And some people called them fame whores also (notably Ann Coulter, who really shouldn't talk). We had one of the pilot's wives to our house one night, and though she was nice, she did sort of "cash in," afterward. But I found it hard to criticize. I mean, no amount of payment makes up for that kind of loss, so let 'em.

  2. We'll be hearing from these people for decades, but pretty soon the public will get sick of them just like every other attention whore.
