Pawn stars Review: December 12, 2013

13 shopping days until Christmas Day so now is your time to run down to your local pawn store and grab some cheap items and claim they are new.  And if your loved ones find out, you'll be sleeping on the couch for a few days/weeks.
I drove by the Gold and Silver shop this evening and the store has certainly changed since the show began.  from the outside, they have a cheesy picture of the 4 stars and the sore has doubled in size.   didn't see the mural that Chumlee had pained a few episodes ago but then, I didn't drive through the back  alley.  Also, the store looks like it doubled in size, as they have taken over the other half of the building they used to share with other businesses.  I'll probably stop by in a few weeks to see the indoor of the shop and buy some Christmas presents for the kiddo's and wife.
If you do visit the shop, remember it is winter here and it can get cold in the high desert.  Last week, we had highs in only the 40's and high 30's and lows in the low to mid 20's.

In the first episode, the first guy brought in a cowboy hat worn by John Wayne.  http://johnwayne.com/  The hat came from the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". : http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/82756/The-Man-Who-Shot-Liberty-Valance/articles.html
The owner bought the hat from another collector for a boat load of money, according to the owner.  The hat has a stain on it and also had some documentation to back up his story.  The guy wanted $95,000 for the hat.
Rick was concerned because the film was in black and white and he didn't know if the colors matched.  Time for an expert, John Wayne's son, Ethan.  Ethan didn't think the hat wasn't big enough for John Wayne to wear.  He also thought the brim was the wrong size and so, he wasn't positive the hat was his.  There was no sale.
The story of the day was that Corey's dog came into the shop for a while.  The dog is an English Bulldog.  Chumlee was the lucky guy to walk the dog and so, on advice from another employee, took the dog for a walk to look for girls.  Chumlee didn't the girls, David did but lied about the dog, saying the dog was his and was a rescue dog.
At the end of the show, Corey found David walking the dog in a neighborhood close to the pawn shop, being trailed by about 5 women and Corey took back the dog, leaving David stranded.

The next guy brought in a 1866 Card Playing Book.  You can read the book here: https://archive.org/stream/americancardplay00dick#page/n0/mode/2up
It's selling on E-Bay for $1600.  The guy wanted $1500 and Chumlee offered $25.  Rebecca happened to be at the store and she said the book was in rough shape, but then the books was about gambling and was from 1866.  She said the book was worth around $2000.  The guy went to $1800 and Chumlee offered $1200.  This whole conversation was a real bad acting job by both players.  Chumlee offered $1350 and the guy went to $1375 and that was the selling price.
For more than 50 years, Herb Alpert has made his mark on the music business, as a trumpeter and the "A" in A&M Records. This week, he released his first studio recording with his wife, Lani Hall, a collection called "I Feel You." // Tour dates at SoundSpike
The next guy brought in a trumpet that was signed by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. https://herbalpert.herbalpertpresents.com/
The guy wanted $10,000 for the trumpet.  There was no paperwork, the trumpet was not high end and Herb Alpert isn't a big name.  Rick didn't make offer, so no deal.
In the 2nd episode, Chumlee lobbied to become the assistant manager of the store.  Corey came up with a test to try and stump Chumlee and Chumlee passed the first round of the test.  And the 2nd round as well.  In the 3rd round, it was word association and Corey took notes that said "FAIL".
Rick was not impressed with Corey's test, so Rick made him a manager's assistant, like a gofer.
spider man comic
The first guy brought in the very first Spider Man comic book.  A signed copy of the comic book by Stan Lee was selling for $340 but another book sold for $1,100,000.  The guy wanted $16,000.   Time for an expert, Johnny.  He said the book was worth about $5-6,000 because of some problems with the cover of the book.  The guy went to $13,000 and Corey offered $7000.  The guy came down to $10,000 and there was no deal.

The next guy, brought in a Samurai Sword.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_sword
The owner is also the owner of this car shop in Las Vegas: http://www.daveydealslasvegas.com/
He took the sword on a deal on a card and he thinks the sword came from the 1500's.  Davey wanted $18,000.  Rocco was the expert and employee of the Gold and Silver shop.  He said the sword was real and from the 1500's.  Rocco said the sword was worth $15,000-20,000.  Rick offered $10,000.  Rick then offered $12,000.  Davey went for a trade- a sand rail, which is a off road 4 seat dune buggy.

Rick wanted the sword and $10,000 for the sand rail.  Davey came back with the sword and $3000.  The final price was the sword and $8000 for the sand rail.
The next guy brought a World War 2 Navy Dictograph phone system.  It was a series of phones with relays an switches.
The guy wanted $4000 and the Old Man said no because it was so big.  There was no deal.
