Notre Dame's top football candidate died in an accident that could qualify him for a Darwin award. From ESPN: "Witnesses and friends indicate he had become drunk and belligerent," Humphreys said. "He had leaned over the balcony rail, was shaking his finger at the people in the next room over. He fell over."..."James was part of a group of about 40 St. Xavier students and a half-dozen parents on the trip." http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5053059
First, obviously there was a lack of oversight by the adults who were chaperoning the trip. Also, it is pretty obvious that there was no peer pressure with the kids.
The only good thing that could come of this is that parents who let their kids go on Spring Break either go themselves and watch their kids or have someone in charge who maintains strict control of all the kids. Six adults for 40 kids seems kind of low.
The other thing people can bring from this tragedy is that kids will finally realize that drinking alcohol has consequences and this time, the consequence is death. Hopefully this accident will sink in and it will stop someone from doing the same stupid thing.
