According to the Minot Daily News, there are billions of barrels of oil under the ground in North Dakota. The study says that "almost 20 million barrels of oil appear to be in place within the Three Forks portion of the Bakken pool of which close to 2 billion barrels are expected to be produced." "According to the new study, "Together the assessments indicate that the Bakken pool contains 169 billion barrels of oil in place of which about 4 billion barrels will likely be produced." The results of the two studies are consistent with the results of several earlier studies which focused on the petroleum potential of the Bakken source system, the new study says.
As of the end of 2009, there were 181 horizontal wells drilled and completed in the Three Forks Formation and nine additional wells in which laterals were drilled into both the Three Forks and middle Bakken." http://www.minotdailynews.com/page/content.detail/id/538934.html?nav=5010
North Dakota is one of the few states that is thriving. It has low unemployment and low taxes. There is a housing shortages in cities like Williston because of the influx of workers.I used to live in North Dakota and this oil boom couldn't have happened to a nicer state. I hope they use their oil money wisely.
