Will The Last Person In North Las Vegas Please Turn Out The Lights?

From the LVRJ: The streets of North Las Vegas might soon have fewer police officers and firefighters to watch over them after the City Council voted Tuesday night to slash the city's budget by $33 million.
Pink slips could start going out as early as next week to up to 100 North Las Vegas Police Department employees, 57 Fire Department employees, and 60 other city employees.
In addition to adopting the budget with the cuts, the Council also authorized the city manager to initiate the layoffs.
"There's not one City Council member up here who wants to lay anyone off," Mayor Shari Buck told a half-full auditorium just before the unanimous vote. "We don't want to lay you off."

North Las Vegas is in such crappy shape that it would be almost better for them to give it up and turn controls over to the State of Nevada or let Clark County or the City of Las Vegas take over the city.  But they probably won't because North Las Vegas is in such bad shape.
NLV has a large portion of inner city/poor areas of town with a little bit rich area by the Aliente area and that small area just cannot support all the cops, firefighters, social services etc.  Further, the firefighters and police unions pretty much don't carfe, as long as they get their pay.  They have made some meaningless cuts and probably will not give much this budget years.
So, to those living in Las Vegas, good luck, buy some ammo and get some good fire insurance.
