The LVRJ, usually a conservative newspaper, has been taking a lot of cheap shots at conservative politicians int he Las Vegas area. The latest is non-issue story is that Rep. Dr. Joe Heck, my representative in Congress, closed down his business and laid off 5 employees including his wife. His wife then received unemployment compensation.
From the LVRJ: Rep. Joe Heck's wife, who worked for her husband but lost her job
after he was elected to Congress, collected unemployment in Nevada for a
time last year, according to a disclosure that set off a flurry of
politics on Friday.
Democrats pounced on the story first reported
by Politico, charging Lisa Heck essentially should not have applied for
benefits under the circumstances. Heck said his wife was no different
from others who lost their job and qualified for payments.
Lisa
Heck was a nurse who worked for Specialized Medical Operations, a
medical training and consulting firm where her husband served as
president.
But Heck dissolved the company after being elected to
the U.S. House in 2010 after concluding it presented a conflict because
most of its business came through government contracts. Five people lost
their jobs.
Heck, who generally has supported extending federal
jobless benefits, said through an office statement his wife was no
different from many Americans who have lost their jobs.
"After
losing her job, Lisa Heck applied for and began receiving unemployment
while she searched for work," Heck's office said. "As a mother, the wife
of an active Army Reservist, and a congressional spouse, Mrs. Heck felt
that it was in the best interest of the family to end her job search
and remain at home. At that time, she stopped receiving unemployment." http://www.lvrj.com/news/heck-rapped-on-wife-s-unemployment-benefits-160067035.html?numComments=23
This is story is so easy to swat down.
1. Heck's medical office paid unemployment insurance premiums.
2. Mrs. Heck was laid off.
3. Mrs. Heck was entitled to the unemployment compensation.
4. Mrs. Heck took the money until she decided not to look for another job.
It is funny that Heck's opponent, John Oceguera, is a true double dipper, as it has been well documented that he was receiving his pay from the North Las Vegas Fire Dept. while at the same time, being up in Carson City being a State legislator: http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2011/07/double-dipper-who-steals-from.html
Occeguera also stole from his fellow firefighters when he agreed to work their shifts after they traded shifts with him and then Oceguera refused to work his fellow firefighters shifts afterwards. What a pathetic scoundrel.
Clearly, the Democrats are desperate, as is this reporter, to find some dirt on Joe Heck. The Dem's are doing their class warfare and it just won't work.
