Dale Jr. Wins, Tiger Chokes, Heat Out Wrestle Thunder

It was a really interesting sports weekend, this past weekend.
First, Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Michigan 400 in convincing style, breaking a 143 race winless streak: From ESPN: After four years and 143 races -- the agonizing near-misses and all those questions about when he might finally win again -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. was alone in his car, comfortably ahead of the field and only a few minutes from victory.
"That was the worst feeling, riding around there with 15 laps to go, wondering what was going to happen -- how you were going to lose," Earnhardt said. "Those laps couldn't go by fast enough."
There was no falling short this time. Earnhardt held on smoothly at Michigan International Speedway for his first NASCAR Sprint Cup victory since 2008, and he did it in convincing fashion, beating Tony Stewart by 5.393 seconds Sunday. When the black Chevrolet with the green No. 88 crossed the finish line, Earnhardt ended a streak of 143 Cup races without a win and gave his legions of fans a thrilling reward for all their support -- and patience.
"They stayed loyal," he said. "As soon as I got out of the car, that was my initial thought -- was about how many people were in their living rooms screaming at the top of their lungs, or running out in the yard, or whatever they do. I just wish I could see it all at once."  http://espn.go.com/racing/nascar/cup/story/_/id/8064287/dale-earnhardt-jr-ends-143-race-drought-win-michigan
In NASCAR, Dale Jr. is a polarizing driver- you either love or hate him.  the haters will say "Even a blind squirrel will get a nut once in while"  And those who love Dale Jr. they say it's about time and they will forgive him for all the screw ups he and his crews have made over the years.  But Dale Jr. deserves this win as he has been the most consistent driver this year, though he is still second in points to Matt Kenseth.

In golf, Webb Simpson defeated the course and the field.  If you watched the tournament, golf's best golfers looked like your weekend duffer.  Jim Furyk on the 16th hole hit a shot that I would even be embarrassed with.  Put the course was difficult and it wasn't even windy out.
Tiger Woods, the golfer who all the pundits thought would win this weekend, choked big time this weekend, shooting a 75 yesterday and a 73 today.  From ESPN: And the chances were gone when Woods started bogey-bogey-double-bogey Sunday.
"The first six, I just didn't play well at all," he said. "I just could never get anything going positively and I missed the ball in the wrong side a couple times, and that's all it takes." http://espn.go.com/golf/story/_/id/8065130/tiger-starts-slowly-finishes-73-us-open
Now Woods has a longer major winless major streak than Dale Jr. had with his Sprint car losing streak.
My guess is that Wood will not win another Major again- he is getting older, is choking and he is physically beat up.
Hats off to ESPN golfing analyst who predicted the winning score will be +1, which was the winning score.

Finally, the Miami Heat went up 2-1 in the NBA Finals.  I was only able to watch about 8 minutes of the game because a basketball game broke out of a WWE wrestling match. I didn't see any basketball being played.
So, it was an interesting weekend in sports and hope we can have some more.
