Pawn Stars Reviw: June 18, 2012

Ever been in a blast furnace?  Welcome to Las Vegas this week as today, it got up to 106 with 40 MPH winds and when you stepped outside the hot air hits you and it takes your breath away.

In the first episode, the first guy brought in a  Lusitania medal.  http://www.pbs.org/lostliners/lusitania.html  The medal had a skeleton selling tickets to customers on it.  If it was made of bronze, it would be worth about $10,000.  They used a magnet to prove that it was not bronze and made by Britain and was worth $150.  rick offered $100 and there was no sale.  More info: http://www.lusitaniamedal.com/
The next guy brought in a German antique volt meter from 1916.  The guy brought in a new volt meter to show the antique worked, and it did.  The guy wanted $2000 and then $1200 and Corey offered $400 and then $500 and no sale.
The next guy brought in a autobiography by Charles Lindbergh.  http://www.amazon.com/We-Charles-A-Lindbergh/dp/0899668321  The book was supposedly signed by Lindbergh.  The guy wanted $800 and Chumlee went to $250 and then to $500 and that was the deal.  Chumlee did not have the signature checked out. The guys were not happy and had Chumlee take the book to an expert, Rebbecca to see what the book was worth and if it was not worth at least $500, he would have been suspended.  So, he went to Rebbecca  of Bauman Rare Books of Las Vegas, and she said there may be a problem because Chumlee's book had initials but in the end, is real, even though it was not even close to another signature Rebbecca had and she said the book was worth $1500. After cruising the Internet, I found a signed first edition for $895  and on up.http://www.abebooks.com/book-search/title/we/author/charles-lindbergh/signed/  so, Chumlee probably did good.
The next guy brought in a 1662 Dutch balance scale.  It came with some counterweights that were pretty cool looking.   The guy wanted $4000 and Rick wanted to have an expert check to see how old it is.  Mark from the Clark County Museum came down and said the strings were replaced but the scale was from 1662.  Rick offered $1500 and the guy wanted $3000.  Rick offered $2500 and that was the sale price.
In the second episode, the first guy brought in a rifle from the 1500's.  It was rusted and not in very good shape.  The guy wanted $1000 and Rick offered $500 because the gun rusted and in bad shape and that was the sale price.  The guy paid $50 for it.  Jemison came to Rick to see the gun.  He said it was a snaphance African trading gun.  http://therifleshoppe.com/catalog_pages/snaphaunce_weapons/snaphaunce_weapons.htm  Jemiison said it was worth about $400-500 because it was in rough shape and considered a relic.  Rick didn't sell the gun, instead put it in his office.

The next guy brought in some sports medals (pin backs), mostly from baseball.  There were some Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth and Roy Campenella along with some old baseball teams like the Boston Braves.teams.  The guy wanted $7500 for about 70 pins.  Time for an expert, Jeremy.  He said the collection was worth $2500 because of the small market for the pins.  Rick offered $1500 and that was the sale price.
leroy neiman nieman love story tennis sports
The next guy brought in a LeRoy Neiman's Love Story print.   http://www.leroyneiman.com/leroy-neiman-biography.asp It was a  serigraph print of of a 4 guys playing team tennis.  Time for an expert, Fred from Art Encounter.  Corey was concerned about the placement of the signature.  Fred said the print was worth about $1200 because of the condition was rough.  Corey offered $800 and that was the selling price.  There is some prints going for $5000.  http://www.atkinsonfineart.com/ItemHome.php?ItemID=444
The next guy brought in a WWII U.S. Air Force bombers helmet.  It's an old leather helmet, kind of like the first football helmets.  The guy wanted $400 and Corey offered $100.  He guy came back with $300 and Corey went to $200 and then $250 and that was the sale price.
Thus ends another 2 editions of Pawn Stars.  Hope everyone stays cool this next week and thanks for stopping by.
