With the November elections getting closer, get ready for the tears and crying by people who want to jack up taxes on those who live in the Las Vegas Valley.
First, the City of Henderson Library District is asking taxpayers to fork over a bunch of money to keep the libraries open. The libraries already have cut hours to proclaim their poverty. This, despite the fact that they have full time security officers to guard against us violent library roving thugs. Further, when we go to the library, there are several staff members who sit around and play on the computer. Perhaps, if they go out of their chairs and asked their customers if they needed help, maybe I can feel some sympathy for them but they just plant themselves on the chairs and wait for customers to interact with them instead of the other way around.
This is a no brainer: Vote no on the City of Henderson libraries request for more money.
The second referendum is the Clark County School District (CCSD) wanting a temporary property tax raise. Temporary, my big fat furry butt.
Anyways, the district wants the money to build some schools and to fix a whole of schools. Today, in an effort to bribe voters, CCSD promised to rebuild two schools and fix 140 other schools. Of course, the media will lap it up and come up with sob stories about how kids had to without air conditioning for a couple of days or that things in the district are broke and need fixing.
First, a lot of broken items are done by students vandalizing things like bubblers, urinals and toilets. Maybe if the kids were not so thuggish, we would have more money to spend.
However, I do think there needs to some maintenance done on the buildings but I don't think a property tax increase is the answer. The problem I fear is that the District will use the money for maintenance but in reality, use the extra money for salaries and hiring more staff.
So, right now, I don't favor it, but I can be persuaded only because CCSD has done a lot of cutting in the past few years and they have not been greedy to the taxpayers as other government agencies have been.
