This is a fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives: The liberals believe we all belong to government while conservatives, as Mitt Romney points out that "We don't belong to the government, the government belongs to us."

In context, I didn't take it that way at all. It was used in the sense of "belonging to" a political party, a church, a club a school. . .Not "owned by." Sheesh!
