It really is hard to cheer Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City considering he is a mini-dictator but he is doing a good job handling a school bus driver strike in NYC.
From SI Live: As parents across Staten Island -- and the rest of New York City -- scramble to get their kids to school on the fourth day of the school bus strike, the National Labor Relations Board has stepped in to determine whether the strike is legal.
If the strike is ruled illegal, the Labor Relations Board could order drivers and matrons back to work right away.
The Labor Relations Board is due to hear arguments on Tuesday, and many parents hope there will be a ruling that will put an abrupt end to the school bus strike.
Last Wednesday, the Amalgamated Transit Union 1181 went on strike over the city's refusal to include employee protection provisions (EPP) in bids for new contracts. The provisions allow a union bus driver to move from one bus company to another while maintaining his or her seniority in terms of pay and pensions. http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2013/01/national_labor_relations_board.html
Many of those who are affected by the strike are special need kids- kids with autism, intellectual disabilities and those with severe health problems and the union is basically giving those kids the middle finger.
And the main reason they are striking is for job security, which is a false issue because the drivers and matrons work for a private bus company and if the private company loses the city contract, the drivers and matrons could force the winning companies to hire the workers, whether the comp[any wanted to hire them or not.
The U.S. Court of Appeals have already said this is illegal, so the union thugs are basically striking for nothing.
But hey, who cares if a disabled kid or a regular education kid get to school; the union thugs in NYC sure don't care.
