From the LA Times: An Inglewood police officer fatally shot a man who was wielding a machete-like weapon Saturday night and using it to smash the windows of police cars, according to a department spokeswoman.
The man with the blade was spotted in front of a police station on Manchester Boulevard just before 6 p.m., said Inglewood Police Lt. Gabriela Garcia. After the man advanced toward an officer with the weapon, the officer opened fire, Garcia said.
The man was taken to a hospital and died in surgery, Garcia said.
The officer will be placed on administrative leave while an investigation into the incident is pending.
Police did not release the names of the officer or the man with the machete. http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-police-shooting-inglewood-machete-ln-20130518,0,67798.story
And from Madison.com: The investigation into the fatal shooting of a man by police officers Friday night outside his condo building on Madison’s Far East Side has been turned over to the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday identified the man as Brent E. Brozek, 43. An autopsy confirmed his death was from firearm-related trauma, the office said. Additional testing is being done.
The shooting was the culmination of a daylong standoff with police. Brozek was shot after he emerged from the condo at 947 Rockefeller Lane and charged at officers with a large sword, police said.
He was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
