Bureaucrats At Their Worst

From the Detroit Daily News: The Detroit Zoo has agreed to house a deer-turned-family-pet that made headlines this week after news broke that state wildlife officials want to remove it from its Genesee County home.
Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials were tipped off about the deer a few weeks ago by someone who saw it at the house. The deer’s caretakers have raised the 5-year-old animal since birth and want to keep it, but in Michigan, it’s illegal to own wildlife without a permit. Officials say a deer in a human home poses safety risks.
The DNR recently contacted zoo officials who said they would take the deer as long as it passed health screenings. DNR spokeswoman Sarah Lapshan said the agency told an attorney for the deer’s caretakers about the zoo option Friday and are waiting to hear back.
The whitetail deer, nicknamed “Lilly” and seen in online videos sitting on a couch, might take some time to acclimate but would likely fit in well with the zoo’s existing populations of fallow or white-lipped deer, said Scott Carter, chief life sciences officer at the zoo.
“No matter how animals like this were raised, she’s not a dog, she’s not a cat, she’s not a domestic animal,” he said. “She’s still a wild deer.”  http://www.freep.com/article/20130607/NEWS05/306070144/Genesee-County-deer-Lilly
The deer is probably better behaved than the kids of the Michigan DNR thugs.
The deer has never been in the wild since the deer has been raised by the family when the deer's mom was killed by a car outside their house.  Lilly was born and has lived with the family fr 5 years.  If the DNR stepped in when the baby deer was born, it probably would have been put down since it's mom also died.
Now the Michigan DNR thugs/Gestapo are being unbending in not allowing the family to keep the deer as a pet, because the deer might turn violent.  Yeah, right.  It's not like the girl deer has antlers, so the best it could do is head butt someone or kick them. Yep, it may hurt for 10 seconds but that's it.
The MI DNR is just jealous that they don't have control of the deer and they think only people who have had training are qualified to keep deer.
The Governor of Michigan is Gov. Rick Snyder, a good conservative governor and he should step in and control his out of control MI DNR thugs/Gestapo agents and he should support the deer and the family.  It's an easy call.
