From the San Fran Chronicle:
Survey says….28.
TD Ameritrade surveyed Generation Z (ages 14 to 23) about money, college,
living with their parents and plans for the future.
When asked at what age they would be embarrassed to still be living at home,
the average answer was 28. Almost 90 percent said they would be embarrassed to
be living at home at 30, and half said it would be embarrasing at age 25.
The average age at which they expect to be living alone is 21 and 63 percent
thought their parents would welcome them back if they couldn’t make it on their
own financially. http://blog.sfgate.com/pender/2013/06/27/how-old-is-too-old-to-be-living-with-your-parents/
I was out of the house by 18 though a friend of mine didn't get out of his house until he was about 30 and that was when he moved into his future wife's home.

Unless your kids get a well paying job shortly after graduation, you may be stuck with them as roomies for quite some time.
ReplyDeleteAt least you have the option of charging them rent after they turn 18.
