From the LVRJ: UNLV will play in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on New Year’s Day against North Texas.
The Rebels are expected make an official announcement tonight after the Bowl Championship Series settles its field.
This is UNLV’s first bowl game since appearing in the 2000 Las Vegas Bowl. The Rebels went 7-5 to set up the bowl meeting with North Texas, which is 8-4.
Outgoing UNLV president Neal Smatresk recently agreed to take the same post at North Texas.
The Heart of Dallas Bowl agreed to a deal with the Armed Forces Bowl in neighboring Fort Worth to take the Mountain West team, paving the way for the Rebels to take the game. http://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/unlv-will-play-north-texas-heart-dallas-bowl
Not to diminish UNLV's accomplishments, but do you think UNLV would have made this bowl if Neal Smatresk was not going to North Texas as their president?
How many people will attend the game? I think the over/under will be 25,000 with 24,000 coming from North Texas.
And the Wisconsin Badgers, my alma mater, are going to play in the Capitol One Bowl and play South Carolina on New Years Day. That should be a good one.
