Do We Need The NHP In Clark County?

Nevada has a huge budget problem. Like over $1 billion deficit problem. So, why is the NHP (Nevada Highway Patrol)in Clark County?
The NHP patrols the area's highways, mainly the I-15, Hwy 93 and 95 and a few other roads. But so does Metro, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and probably Mesquite. I travel everyday down the 95 from Henderson and just about everyday, I see a Metro or Henderson motorcycle or police car and their officer have someone pulled over for a traffic violation.
What is the main function of the NHP in Clark County? Primarily accident investigation and big rig patrol On very rare occasions, they have a weight station open.
Well, why can't the local police department take over the duties of the NHP? They already investigate accidents, from fender benders to major accidents like fatal accidents. The local cops can be trained to work with the big rigs.
It's not like the NHP is very busy with accidents. With the exception of rush hour and rain, there are not that many accidents in Clark County. Of course, the State would have to pay the local police departments some extra money to do the extra duties, but it certainly can be less than what the State pay the troopers who work in Clark County.
