The Las Vegas Sun newspaper just loves to complain, complain and complain. But what they don't do is come up with solutions to problems. It's really easy sitting on the sideline as a backbencher and complain about what is going on in the field. It's like beer drinking slob sitting in his recliner complaining about what is going on the football field when his football team is losing but has no idea how solve the problem. After all, if he was a smart person in football, he would be the coach and not the two fisted slobber.
Well, the Sun is the beer guzzling slob on the recliner when it comes to education. It complains a lot but has no clue on what to do.
From the editorial: A major part of Gov. Brian Sandoval’s plan to overhaul education is to change the rules for teachers. He wants to get rid of teacher tenure and put all teachers on one-year contracts with no guarantee of being rehired. He also wants schools to stop giving teachers raises for having advanced degrees and end some benefits of seniority, such as extra pay.
The governor’s proposals, offered in Assembly Bill 555, take on a politically sensitive issue and the debate has been heated. Conservatives across the country have been clamoring for these types of changes. Some right-wing activists have demonized public employees’ unions, and they have made it seem like the entire problem with the state’s schools are because of teachers’ unions. The teachers’ unions, which are no strangers to political debate, have fought back.
The result is that education policy has become more polarized and more political, and that’s a shame. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/may/02/its-not-multiple-choice/

Then the Sun goes down a list of school reforms the governor and some Democrats have proposed: Tenure: Can't change that. One year contracts: can't have that either so says the Sun. Extra pay. Nope, can't do that.
So, the only thing suggest is to put more money into the schools. Where they are going to ge tth emoney, who will be cut else where and where specifically the money will go if it goes into education is not answered.
Finally the last paragrapgh says this: There’s no magic fix to what ails education. Simplistic answer and hyper-partisanship won’t work. The state needs to carefully consider the entire picture. Yet the Sun offers no solutions.
Fat, drunk and stupid is not the way to through life- are you listening Brian Greenspun and the rest of the Las Vegas Sun editorial writers?
