In September, we are going to have one hell of an election in Nevada's 2nd Congressional district, Dean Heller's soon to be old House seat.
According to Ross Miller, a Democrat has decided that there will be just one election and anyone who wants to run, can (providing, of course, you live int he District). The District pretty much takes up the entire State of Nevada, but is considered a safe GOP seat.
From the LVRJ: Secretary of State Ross Miller opened the 2nd Congressional District race to all comers Monday.
The candidates' names will be placed on the Sept. 13 ballot for the special election to fill the seat of Republican Rep. Dean Heller of Northern Nevada, who was nominated to fill the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican John Ensign.
The decision is expected to spark a lawsuit by the Republican Party, which fears that if several Republicans run for the seat in a race against one or two Democrats, then a Democrat conceivably could win.
Miller said his interpretation of election laws found that there is no provision to limit the number of Republican and Democratic candidates who can run for the seat.

Of course, Miller could have opted for door number two in which the party (Dem's, GOP and other political parties) nominate their candidates and put them on the ballot, which also sucks as an idea. Having a committee nominate a candidate is not a good way to run an election ans it is the goold old boys and girls making their choice and the not the choice of the voters. This way would have favored the Republicans overwhelming.
But Miller, being a Democrat chose to have a free for all election, which will favor a Democrat. But if a Democrat wins, it will be a short term win, as they will be blown out of the water in 2012.
The same will be true if a GOP candidate gets in if they are not overwhelming popular, like Sharron Angle.
The best way to have solved this problem is a primary and then the election but Nevada doesn't have the money and the law really doesn't cover this idea.
So, if you got a few bucks and live in the 2nd District, take a chance and run, you may just win with a low vote total.
