Dr. Joe Heck responds to taxpayer thief, John Oceguera and his sleazy claims:
Oceguera claim: "We must come together and work to strengthen and preserve Medicare, and my core goal is protecting Medicare and its benefits for Nevada seniors who have earned them after a lifetime of work, not end it as we know it."
FACT: The budget passed by the House of Representatives saves Medicare from
going bankrupt and includes no changes for those at - or near -
retirement age. Under the House budget, seniors would be given the
freedom to choose the type of health care plan that is best for them -
traditional Medicare among them.
Oceguera claim: "Congressman Joe Heck wants Nevadans to trust him with Medicare, but he's voted twice to end Medicare by turning it into a voucher system that puts seniors' health care into the hands of insurance company bureaucrats."
FACT: Politifact awarded its 2011 Lie of the Year award
to the claim that the House budget "ends Medicare." Despite this,
Oceguera continues to use this line of attack in an attempt to scare
voters. Oceguera supports President Obama's health care law which
includes the formation of the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB),
a group of 15 un-elected government bureaucrats who will come between
seniors and their doctors.
Oceguera claim: "Joe Heck needs to check his record, because he voted
to preserve the very same Medicare savings he now condemns, and he
wants to put them towards tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires instead of bringing down health care costs."
FACT: The Medicare savings in the House budget are
the result of reduced Medicare costs due to competition among private
insurers. When private insurers compete costs will be reduced while
maintaining access and quality, and the Medicare program will not go
bankrupt. Dr. Heck voted to prevent a massive tax hike on Nevada's struggling families and businesses while
John Oceguera has repeatedly stated that he supports raising taxes on
individuals and small business owners who earn more than $250,000.
According to the IRS there are more than 2,700,000 people who earn
$250,000 per year or more - and fewer than one-tenth of them earn a
million dollars or more. Under the plan Oceguera supports, 90% of the
men, women and small businesses hit with higher taxes aimed at
"millionaires and billionaires" are neither....
While John Oceguera continues to support President Obama's failed
economic policies, avoids talking about his record of tax increases and
refuses to take a stand on important issues, Dr. Joe Heck will continue working on solutions that help Nevada's families and small businesses.
