From the LVRJ: A person was found dead in a residential backyard Sunday morning after a 72-year-old man fired at least one round from his handgun because intruders were trying to break in, Las Vegas police said.
The identities of the deceased person and the homeowner were not released.
Police said at 7:48 p.m. they were called to a home in the 2300 block of Westwind Road, near Sahara Avenue and Jones Boulevard, on a report of intruders trying to enter a home.
Police said the homeowner fired as the suspects were entering his bedroom.
Arriving officers encountered one suspect attempting to flee the area in a vehicle. The suspect's vehicle collided with a police patrol car.
That suspect was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit, police said.
A second suspect was last seen fleeing east into a nearby neighborhood. He had not been arrested as of early Monday afternoon.
Officers searching the homeowner's property found a third person, described as a "Latin male," dead in the homeowner's backyard.
When police spokesman Bill Cassell was asked if the homeowner fatally shot the man, he said, "At this point, that is part of our ongoing investigation."
Police said charges against the homeowner are not expected. http://www.lvrj.com/news/police-investigate-fatal-shooting-in-attempted-home-invasion-189726081.html
And yet there are the anti-gun nuts who don't think this gun owner should be allowed to have a gun. People like Tom Barrett of Milwaukee and Rahm Emmanuel of Chicago think this gun owner probably should have attacked the dead thug with a pair of scissors or just try and hide.
It's a good thing this thug is dead and the homeowner is safe. That's the way it should be.
