From the San Fran Chronicle: The purported owner of a revenge-porn website was arrested in San Diego on Tuesday in what's being touted as the state's first legal action against the practice of distributing graphic images online as a form of humiliation.
The attorney general charged Kevin Christopher Bollaert, 27, with 31 felony counts of conspiracy, identity theft and extortion for his alleged role in the now-defunct website Ugotposted.com.
The site was one of many revenge-porn outfits that allow anonymous users to post sexually explicit photographs - sometimes of ex-lovers - without the consent of the photo subjects.
After Bollaert created the website in December 2012, the attorney general's office said, there were more than 10,000 posts. Many of the victims said private images had been taken in hacks of their e-mail and social media accounts - or lifted from their stolen phones.
Ugotposted.com required that each post include the subject's full name, location, age and Facebook link. That resulted in harassment, unwanted attention and humiliation, prosecutors said.
Bollaert is accused of seeking to cash in on the enterprise by creating a second website. When victims saw their photos on Ugotposted.com and contacted the site, investigators said, Bollaert would send them an e-mail from Changemyreputation.com, offering to remove the images for a fee ranging from $300 to $350.
According to the state's arrest warrant, Bollaert told investigators that he made up to $900 a month from advertising on Ugotposted.com, while his PayPal account indicated he made tens of thousands of dollars from Changemyreputation.com. http://www.sfgate.com/crime/article/In-a-first-alleged-revenge-porn-dealer-busted-5052730.php
This guy is just a thug who uses the Internet to create havoc with people's lives and then extorts money from the victims of his thuggery.
Hopefully, he will spend a long time in jail/prison.
