Season Premire: Pawn Stars 6/7/2010 Beware of Chumlee

Well, another new season Pawn Stars starts tonight. With the temps. reaching 110, it's nice to stay inside and watch TV and so here we go again:
In the first episode, the first guy brought in a 1969 Rokon Trail Breaker motorcycle, which is an off road motorcycle. It's a two wheel driver motorcycle. The engine was started like a lawn mower. The guy wanted $2000 and Rick offered $500 and that was the deal and then it goes to expert, Rick Dale. Rick restored it and the met out in the desert by Nellis AFB. It went from green to yellow. It cost $2800 for restoration and they may get $5000. Rick's web site: http://ricksrestorations.ning.com/
The next guy brought in a gold coin, a 1715 Spanish Fleet coin. Rick had some serious reservations about the coin, thinking it may have been a fake. Time for the expert, Carl. Carl thought it was genuine he thought it was worth $18,000. Rick offered $10,000. The guy counter offered $11,000 and that is was what it went for. The seller thought he was only going to get $2000 when he went into the shop.
The next guy brought in a Woody Wood Pecker plastic toy from the 1950's. The Old Man was doing the dealing and the man got $20 for it.
The next man brought in a bunch of boxing memorabilia from Muhammad Ali. This includes cards, boxing gloves, a record and autographed pictures and a Muhammad Ali shoe polish. The man wanted a couple of thousand and the guys offered $700. And it went for $750.
In between the commercials, the guys from the shop pretended to be members of the A-Team. Didn't work for me, but then no one really looked like the real BA.
The last guy brought in a Zenith Shortwave radio from 1963. I used to have a radio like that when I was a kid and it really is a cool item and one of my favorite radios. The guy wanted $80 and that is what he got.
In the 2nd episode of Pawn Stars. The first guy brought in maps and battle plans for the battle of Iwo Jima. The maps and plans were from the gentleman's father, who was a coxswain in a landing boat. The guys went to Mark, from the Clark County Museum, which is located in Henderson, on Boulder Highway. Rick's first offer was $2000. The guy countered at $2700 and it went for $2300. He wanted the money for his daughter's wedding. Boy, that is a tough call, selling your dad's mementos.
The next guy brought in a script from "In Heat of the Night", starring the late Carrol O'Conner. They said it came on TV after Saturday morning cartoons. Rick didn't want it because they have a hard time selling scripts.
The next guy brought in a 1967 Ford F-100. It started up right away, unlike some other cars and trucks that have been brought in. the guy wanted $4000 and the Old Man offered $2500 and so that was the selling point. They brought it to Mike who is car restorer. It cost $4000 to restore it. It was a red over grey and looked damn nice.
The next said he had 1860's mining gear. Mining in the 1800's and 1900's is what got Nevada on the map. The mining equipment came from Goldfield, NV. which is about 4 hours north and west of Las Vegas. I've been there and it is a town of history. It's not a ghost town, but it has the feel of it. The guy wanted $1500 but Corey turned it down because of the size of the equipment.
The show had more Chumlee and the Old Man on the shows and fewer Rick and a lot of less of Corey. I am not a Chumlee fan, though the younger viewers like him apparently. I like the Old Man and glad to see him more. But adding Chumlee, in my opinion, throws off the timing of the show. It just doesn't seem right.

  1. My grandfather (MY HERO)flew p-51's & p-47's in the pacific during ww2. He left me his squadron patch, medals, silk map etc. If my family was starving I might consider selling them (emphasis on might)I make 75k a year and honestly would not sell them as it is for a million. How someone could sell their fathers ww2 momentos is un-fathomable! ! !

  2. I totally agree. The sentimental value would outweigh any money that they could give me. I'd rather give them to a museum.
But that is the power of wanting to be on TV for your 15 minutes of fame.
