Randy Sutton is a former police officer for Las Vegas Metro. He has been on COPs and has written at least one book and maybe more, on being a police officer in Las Vegas.
But when it comes to lying, he takes the cake. He appeared on an ad for Dina Titus complaining that Dr. Jo Heck was in bed with insurance companies concerning workman's compensation. It is in regards to a police officer who was denied workman's comp when he supposedly was exposed to ricin a couple of years ago. Sutton said Heck was in bed with Metro's insurance companies in denying the workman's comp medical claim.
Except for one thing: the Las Vegas Metro Police department is self insured!
I will give the wife of the police officer a slight break because she is in a vulnerable position and that she was probably used by Titus and the media, but Sutton has no excuse.
As a former Metro police officer, he knew that Metro is self insured. But Sutton decided to lie for Dina Titus and for political reasons.
Police officers are supposed to be honest, but I guess, when Sutton retired, he lost that trait.

Um, you are aware that self-insured only means that they are footing the bill, not actually administrating the insurance. Governments are often self-insured, but they contract with a private company to actually run the system.
ReplyDeleteBut the bottom line is that it was Metro who decided it was not a workman's comp case, not an insurance company. Further, I don't think it was an insurance compnay, per se, running the program. From what I can tell, they don't have a say who gets the money and who doesn't.
ReplyDeleteNo, Dan, it was the insurance company that Metro contracted with that makes the call. They make their decisions based on their bottom line, not the merits of the case. Private insurance companies are the original death panels.
ReplyDeleteThere is no 3rd party running 'insurance'--in this case Metro being self-insured means that all settlements are negotiated with the County then must got before the Board for an up or down vote on the amount.

ReplyDeleteI met Randy while living in Las Vegas. I found him to be one of the most honorable and honest police officers i had ever met, and was always a credit to his department.
